How to Find a Car I Used to Own

I was wondering if anybody knew how to find a car I used to own by vin number. I am looking for my old 2006 Legend Lime GT that I sold about 2 years ago. I really want to buy the car back. I think carfax just tells someone if the car has been in the shop or if it was in an accident, and not who owns the vehicle now. So, I am just looking for any suggestions/ideas.

From: Goshen, IN
Car fax keeps track of the location as well..(I think)... so if car fax can tell you what city the car is registered in, I would think you should be able to contact the DMV and get more info... of course their may be some privacy issues to deal with....

in Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)... they just went to the DMV with Vins and the DMV coughed up ownership info.... I'm sure it wont be just like the movies, but hey, it could be.

For example... I am selling my Car on ebay... the "Autocheck" company they use, similar to Carfax, shows my car as registered in North Liberty, IN where I live..

From: That town you drive through to get to Myrtle Beach
either try the carfax approach, or if you traded it in, start from there, then see if you can track it down, places normally keep records

Go to the nearest doughnut shop, buy a round, and ask the 'peace officer' to run the VIN.

That's actually a great idea, I have a couple of friends that are police officers. I'll see if they can help me out.

Yeah. When you find out the name and address you're gonna have to lie about how you found out. You can't tell them you had a cop buddy get it, or you'll buddy will get in trouble.

Just tell them you have a friend in the same town the car is in who saw it and thought it was the same car. He happens to live a few blocks away and he's actually not your friend, but a friend of a friend. That's vague enough.

Oh yes, I will make sure to come up with some lie. Or maybe I will just go to the car show every weekend hoping my old car will show up. Thanks for helping! I also may say screw it and just order a 2011 GT and own another 5.0!
