how can I get a 9 sec mustang
#1
I have a 93 mustang and I took it out to the track yesterday and wasn't really happy with results specially because of the money that was spent into the car....the car does have all original doors on it, and still have original block as well but the internals are brand new....brand new pistons, brand new crank, brand new heads, brand new tires, brand new bearings, brand new push rods and brand new rocker arms, 12:1 compression, 6.40 lift cam, not exactly sure what's the intake and what's the exhaust lobe for cam, AFR renegade heads car is stripped for weight reduction, had issues with the thottle cable and trans mission but still the car didn't run a good time what can be possibly some of the issues ?

Stop the clock at 9 seconds?
A dyno-results and tune will really be helpful. Right now it's like trying to diagnose a major medical issue over the phone.

practice will help a lot .. the first time i took my Tbird years ago it did not do well .. with nothing more than a little experience and some fine tuning i dropped a full second in the 1/8th .. being set up for the 1/8th may have you a bit too low in gears ..

Yeah I was talking to some other mustang guys and they was telling me try 4:10 gears that might be a little better we took out 3:55 gears so I'm going to try a different combo

9 seconds is tough in a fox body. Really tough. Car is just not right for 9's. Gonna need a good 4link set up. Big sticky tires. Low gears. Big stall converter. And probably at least 600hp. Sounds like you're a long way from 9's. Even then, that will be a hard car to control. 9's are easy in the newer 5.0's but you are heading towards a lot of heartache trying to get that fox where you want it. I would cut your losses and build a different car if 9's are your goal.

Not sure if you read my description but I got almost all the key ingredients to have a 9 sec fox body mustang just I know it's something that I'm missing that not moving my car to the 9 sec mark, not sure if it's the transmission or if the car need to be tuned where I'm from its plenty and I mean plenty of guys that run N/A fox bodies that make it to the 9s with nitrous I'm not sure what they internals are but they are not that different from mines

wasn't sure if you were running nitrous or not. Big gears and stall. Good tune. Suspension is a must. Without a good suspension set up, it will be tough. What tires are you running? What are your 60ft times? How does she handle on the top end? Get it on the dyno and get some real time numbers. See when you are making peak hp and when she is weakest. It may come down to timing or camshafts. I didn't mean to downplay your car because I love the hell out of the foxes but if I was to build a racecar, it wouldn't be a fox. I would love another fox but not for anything more than some street racing.

There isn't any way the stock 302 block, I realize all internals are good, but you're gonna need a Dart block to get the horsepower to do 9 seconds. There is no way the stock block holds for any serious amount of time.

Thanks I been hearing that the stock block 302 isn't good for that power so basically a dart block or what else I was told was a 351w block

Then like al said your only problem will be there rear 4 link setup
Some even question the stock 351w f4te roller blocks. Some say to use them others say you gotta get the early 70s ones which are hard to find.

If you have to start over go 351 dart block and don't look back
