Hid headlights- Help

New to this site and a pretty new mustang owner. My car has a hid kit on it and don't think it is very high quality. The driver side light will work sometimes and other times it won't. I have been told to get rid of hids because they are trouble but I am going to buy a better set and try those out. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just get good halogens or buy a better hid kit? I was lookin at xenon supply kits.

Also... There must be a seal gone in one of my headlights because it is fogged up. I am going to buy a new set. I really like the projector head lights but I have heard you can't use hid's with them?.. Could someone please set me straight lol.

You REALLY need projectors with HIDs. While it is possible to use them without projectors, very often you get way too much glare, and you blind oncoming drivers. Additionally, the light output tends to be much more scattered, and not nearly as good as if you used projectors.

If you're not willing to buy new projectors, it's likely more worthwhile to just stick with halogens. If you do decide to stick with HIDs, go with good brands. $40 HID kits are usually crap. You usually have to spend at least $100-ish to get a kit that works well. Not that cheap kits don't work sometimes...but for a headache free system it's worth spending more money. Same with the projectors, you can get cheap ones but then the cutoff looks like crap and the lens often times isn't that great. Get something like a Morimoto projector to put in there, you'll be much happier.

You can get complete retrofit kits at places like The Retrofit Source. You can pick and choose the components, and they offer good performance for around $300. That gives you everything you need parts-wise to put HIDs and projectors into stock headlights. If you look around Google for a bit you'll find a number of folks who have done this, so you can see how it's done.

Also, if you buy new headlights be weary of ones that have already been fitted with projectors. Sometimes these projectors are of very poor quality, and sometimes they aren't even meant for HIDs (i.e. they can't handle the output of HID bulbs very well).
