help on making a decision
I just bought my 1st car like about 5 months ago its a '94 mustang gt v8 convertible, I love the car, but the transmision is laggy and since I bought the car I have had to replace
. sparkplugs and engine oil and filter
. Transmission fluid and filter
. Harmonic balancer
. Alternator
. Fan belt
. Sparkplug cables
. And some water hoses
the transmision its taking to long to switch gears, I am debating wether to sell the car and buy a newer mustang and fix it up, or keep this 1 and fix it up, what would u guys do? And I heard that the '94 gts are slow that the '99 gts are better ( more horsepower) is this true? Nd if so what's the cause of this? And if I do get a newr mustang wichone should I get? Thank you :-) oh and if I keep the. 94 I have to fix riped seat, left hydralic lift for top is out, and has a small rip on the top thanks again

Ricardo, First of all congrats on the mustang buy. You did not mention the mileage of your car. Anyway it sounds that everything you've replaced is common for a car that is nearly 18 years old. As for the transmission, did you notice any material in the old fluid when you changed it? Clutch material or a burnt odor...it could mean the differance of a full rebuild or just a solenoid.
Now to debate which is a better mustang is all a matter of opinion... The good ole 5.0 is what made the aftermarket and there is so much potential and easy bolt ons. Though the 99+ mustangs have a more edgy look that are more popular and is out of the Box a good second+ faster in the 1/4 mile! I've owned a few of both mustangs ... It all comes down to personal preferance.. Myself Id prefer the 99+ new Edge... Good luck!

Thanks , and I didn't notice anything in the old fluid all I noticed as the old fluid was a lot darker then the new 1, now its doing a little better but it is still a bit laggy, and I been thinking about adding some bolt on mods but don't know if I should wait for the transmission to get better or just do it anyways. And I think I know what would be my next mustang, I want a '99 mustang cobra. Its got a bit less than 138k miles on it I don't know if that's good or bad, what I been thinking is to not keep it for long and not drive it much to not put more miles in it so I could get at least what I paid for it.
I will chime in
. If money is a strain keep the 5.0. By far the cheapest to fix and mod! The 96 and up modular 4.6 engines are costly to fix compared to the 5.0. And if money is really an issue. Forget the cobra... I have one.. dont get me wrong I love the car but if I wasnt a mechanic with a shop available to me I would be completely screwed on this car... I threw a rod in my cobra at 131,000 miles. The engine alone at my cost would have cost me 3200 bucks! And that's on a 97! Parts are expensive and hard to come by on these engines. I wound up dropping in a 2001 cobra engine because I got a steal on it! 1500 bucks.. spun a rod bearing 10,000 miles later... Your getting the picture lol. My next mustang will be a 94 gt. So I can have a 5.0 to play with
As far as the tranny goes what makes you think it is laggy? Exactly what is it doing?

I assume the car is an auto based on what you've said. I say get the trans rebuilt and call it a day.The 5.0 have less power stock for stock then the 99+ but they are also alot cheaper and easier to mod. I say keep the car, restore it where you are happy with it, get the trans rebuilt (if its an auto have a shift kit put in at same time as the rebuild) and have fun with it.
Another thing making me want to keep this car is because I heard that the 5.0 could be the next clasics but not sure just a rumor I heard. ok well I bought the car from my dads friend he had the car in his garage for about 5 years the reason it went into no op was cuz it didn't pass smog, 5 years later I saw it I bought it not knowing if it would run or not, I towed it home and changed oil and spraplugs and cables and put in a new battery and it was working so I was all stoked but I noticed it was shaking to much so took it to my mechanic and he changed the harmonic balancer and that fixed the shaking he also changed the fan belt and hoses that need to be changed, so once again I was stoked and took it out for a spin I pushed gas pedal down to see how fast it could pick up speed and I noticed that the speed gauge wasn't moving up but the rpm was up at the 5500 and the engine sounded like it was working to hard then it finaly switched the gear and it was agressive cuz I felt the pull kind hard, That didn't seem normal cuz I have done that with my dads 07 tacoma and it picks up speed very fast and check engine turns on when ever it lags. And it just doesn't seem normal. Thanks everyone and sorry that this turned in to a letter haha
Hey I'm also a new member on TMS, trust me I've already got alot of info from some of these guys so don't be afraid to ask any questions , Anyways I have a 95 mustang gt which is the same as urs I love the 5.0 I've had three but I will say the 94-95 is a Lil more aggravating modding cause most of the common parts for the fox body's will not fit them, intake manifolds almost every one u need a 100 adapter for your throttle body, and the computers are alot more sensitive. Don't get me wrong I love how it drives and handles compared to my fox mustangs, so all in all it still won't be as expensive to work on as a 4.6 and once you get yours fixed you will be very happy just throw a gear in the rear end soon as u get transmission fixed. I'd go with 4.10 and that car will come alive cause the 5.0 has alot of low end torque and a gear is the best mod for money u can possibly do. Srry for writing a book just tryin to help ya do u plan on racing it any at the track or just lookin for some fun on the street?
But something does sound wrong with transmision right? And I am fraid to go get it cheked at a shop cuz they would see that I am still young I am afraid they wouldtry to take advantage of my like saing major is mest up and only being something small and chargeing me a lot of money. I think I want to just street you the occasional ricerocket haha. ohh and what other unexpensive mods do u recomend? And do air intake, headers, preformace chips realy boost up ur horsepower? Or do what they say they would?
Gear, headers, also you can get intake and heads off explorer (gt 40) and it's a big improvement for the price and about 1/4 the price as trick flow heads and intake I just recently seen a upper n lower intake for 175.00 and it had fuel rails and throttle body with it the heads go for around 200-250 but just do your research on the diffrent heads cause gt 40p requires diffrenr headers but are more powerful than reg gt40 heads im not saying that the gains are like dropping 1500-1800 on top of the line top end but for the price the gt 40 stuff is nice upgrade. As for your transmission i would give in and have it looked at it may be something small you can catch early just try to find a honest mechanic to look at it for ya.
Allright thanks :-) and yea I think I will just do that hopefully its something small. This might be a dumb question but I am curious what makes the '99+ mustangs faster then the '94 isn't the 5.0 biger then the 4.6?
Autozone doesn't lend out the computer anymore, and I tryed autoengenuity and it doesn't want to "read" my car I gues , I think the oldest mustang it "reads" is the '95. And the check engine light turns on and then I slow down or take my foot of the pedal for a lil bit and it turns off
