GM guys crack me up

Just think, in four years you can say "My 2009 Mustang has more power than a 2009 GTO" and get the response "They stopped making GTOs in 2007...where you been?"

Team Mustang Source
" 2007 Camaro= Mustang boys shuttin the heck up after a 5 year reigh (reign) with no competition."
Can't wait for 2007.
Maybe We're being a little mean picking on the Defenseless
OR NOT.

Camaro owners have been jealous for 40 years and it will never change. Go spend $35-40K on a new crapmaro. I dare ya! I will take my Mustang, and add a $5K supercharger. Then I will wipe your beloved LS2 off the face of the earth while spending $5k less. Sucks doesn't it. Now go back and drink some of that spiked kool aid with your GM buddies.

I Have No Life
Easy now guys...
Competition is good...
blind following based on brand loyalty...kinda lame
I hope GM comes out with new ponycar...makes for good competition.
However, I don't think it'll be as early as 07...probably later than 08, if at all...knowing GM.
Lets keep it civil, or I'll close this

I'm glad you joined this forum solely to try to defend the defunct GM muscle cars. How can you be sure that we'll be "shuttin the heck up" in 2007 when the camaro may not even be back then, if at all?

Yeah, let's not be too mean to the guy. I mean, not only does he lack his beloved Camaro, but also basic spelling skills. =/
Just kidding dude, that reign can be a tricky one....

It's going to come down to the price. The reason the Camero/Fire Chicken never beat the Mustang in sales numbers was due to the fact they cost more.
Same thing will happen again if they don't price it right. Which won't happen by the way. GM saw the Mustang coming a mile away and didn't do anything about it till they saw Ford getting unanswered 200,000 sales.
Now they are going to try to one up Ford thus the car will be more expensive. Hence History repeats its self.

Regarding the Mustang, Jim Campbell, Chevrolet car marketing director, says: "I wake up every day knowing that I am spotting Ford 150,000 to 200,000 units

This is the perfect place to provide a link to one of my favorite articles and a true testament to why the Mustang lives and the GM's don't.

I was always under the assumption they cost more. I wonder if he took in account for cash incentives.
Guess I stand corrected. The Mustang won for diffrent reason then cost. Nice article.

It's all moot. Camaro was a troll. He/She posted one time and is now lauging about how wriled up everyone got.
I simply enjoy the car. I admire the fact that Ford is still building them, and instead of canceling the program actually had the gaul to build a retro mustang.
The fact that Ford built it will force others to join into the fray. If they don't come at Ford with well executed retro styling, supurb quality, outstanding performace, and a competative, pricepoint, they'll never stand a chance of winning away the market.
Ford will also have built a substantial following before anything hits the streets. People are in love with the Mustang all over again, and there is nothing (yet again) to compete. GM and Chrysler are going to have to do some seriously hard work to try and woo customers away from a car that is selling as hot as the Mustang.
Regardless of the other components (if you're a Ford man, GM man, or Chrysler man), Ford has won nearly 200,000 buyers in the first year. They sold out the model before the end of the run, and they have given themselves plenty of time to iron out what they will do to compete once GM and Chrysler DO return.
Competition is excellent. As the market heats up, we will see not only better Camaros, but the return of the Challenger, and even better Mustangs. What a fantastic time to be a car guy!

Sorry for the lack of camaro numbers on some years, they simply weren't mentioned in the book i'm using as my source- Tom Schreiner's and Peter Sessler's Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide. Although I am pretty sure the Camaro did out-sell the Mustang in '82-'84 by the context of the book. (i'm too lazy to look up numbers somewhere else right now)
So if we count em up, 4 years the Camaro outsold the Mustang in the '80s. I would call that almost half, not "most of the 1980s" I don't have numbers for pre-79 and post-93 'cause I'm using a Fox-Body book of course....
What were you using as a source when you made that claim?

Since I said late 1970s and 1980s, this is what Standard Catalog of American Cars 1976-1999 said:
Let's start with 1977:
1977: Camaro 218,853 Mustang 153,173
1978: Camaro 272,631 Mustang 192,410
1979: Camaro 282,571 Mustang 369,936
1980: Camaro 152,005 Mustang 271,322
1981: Camaro 126,139 Mustang 182,552
1982: Camaro 182,068 Mustang 130,418
1983: Camaro 153,831 Mustang 120,873
1984: Camaro 261,108 Mustang 145,985
1985: Camaro 179,814 Mustang 158,468
1986: Camaro 92,611 Mustang 227,792
1987: Camaro 137,760 Mustang 159,145
1988: Camaro 96,275 Mustang 211,225
1989: Camaro 110,739 Mustang 209,769
1990: Camaro 83,089 Mustang 128,189
I should've said only early 1980s, not all 1980s because Mustang outsold Camaro in the late 1980s.

dunno if it counts, but wouldnt it be more accurtate to add the camaro and firechicken sales togerther Vs the mustang? b/c essentially they were the same car right? just with slight differeneced and different names, so in theory, the f-body may have indeed outsold the mustang for most of the 70s/80s
i dont have any actualy #s but i bet that for most of those yhears the F-body would be on top of the stang if they were combined as they were pretty close to begin with.
just another thought for the pot :P
