CAI without tune
CAI without tune
I have a programmer on the way, but I was wondering if my 05 mustang gt would still run because I would like to go ahead and in lnstall my off road x pipe and CAI so I would have everything ready for my custom tune. I would have to drive the car approx. 20 miles to my friends dyno I just want to make sure the car will make it that far on the stock tune. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Depends on what CAI you are installing. It takes about 10 mins with hand tools to do the install. You mentioned your friend's dyno, which I assume you could take the kit in the trunk the 20 miles and then just pop the hood and install the CAI in his driveway.
I know if the CAI is a "tune needed" style you will probably throw codes. Not sure if the car will go into a "limp" mode or anything. I have a C&L Racer intake and 93 Octane race tune. I took the battery out for 3 months (storage) and then when I got it back in the car the idle was all weird and it drove odd. I immediately took out my tuner and reflashed the car. It went back to normal.
So answer is that you won't save enough time to jeopardize hurting the vehicle. Just take the CAI with you and while your buddy is readying your car for the dyno, install it.
