Buying a mustang for 18th birthday.

Im turning 18 next month and I want to buy a partially used mustang. Im looking between 2013 to 2015. Im looking for v8 6 speed manual GT in either red, black, or silver. I found one for $26,984. Any help for a young enthusiast?

I'm only throwing this out there that at 18 these new 5.0's got a lot of hp. Please be careful they can be a handful if you aren't used to a V8.

What is a partially used Mustang? Don't believe I've ever seen one for sale.

My last 3 were partially used when I got rid of them. The back seats had never been used in any of them.

not sure about the partly used bit....but what ever stang you go for make sure you familiarize your self with it before you commit to it...they are powerful little beats...

I guess I've read enough here about unhappy owners that have the Chinese 6 speeds. Make sure the car you are interested in shifts properly with no noises or issues. The last thing you want is to lay out big $$ on a used car with 'issues'. I would also suggest looking for a one owner, garage kept car that has been cared for. You want your Mustang ownership experience to be as pleasant as possible. Good luck!

Get a Toyota, pay your own bills, and work hard through college. Only then, will you have payed your dues to get a 5.0.

I can't imagine myself at 18 with my 12 GTCS or any of the high school kids I teach. No offense. Just my 2 cents.

Could always start with a Fiesta (crappy CVT trans) or better go with a Focus hatch with standard in it (I nearly bought one but decided not to due to the after market support not being there like the Mustang) and use that for a beater/practice with standard type car and then as one said work your way into the Mustang...even though I have the V6 in mine it is still a power little pony car, and I sense it will only go further that way as I build it up...

I'm going to be 27 in May and I can't afford a Mustang still due to real life occurrences.

Save your money, get a good daily car suitable for your age. Then once real life hits, see if you can afford a Mustang then.

Agreed... but not a Toyota Supra.

Seriously though, the coyote 5.0 is a lot of engine for an 18 year old. I get that's not what you want to hear and completely understand. I would have wanted that as well back then, but I honestly would have been in a lot of trouble with that much engine at that age. If you want a nice fast car that would allow you to go to some HPDE events and keep the overall cost down for purchase, you can pick up a "partially" used Ford Focus ST for a smoking deal and have enough money left over to invest in other things like school. You can make it your goal for the next car to be the coolest mustang around after you finish school and land a good job. I've had the ST and let me tell you, I would have still found a way to get in trouble with that thing at your age. Lol

Best of luck in your decision but please choose wisely. You have plenty of time to work and save for that bad boy muscle car that you will probably have down the road.

The 5.0 is NOT a lot of engine for an 18 year old. It may be considered a lot of engine for an inexperienced driver. By the time I was 18, I had already been driving 6 years. I grew up in the country & started to learn to drive @ 11. By 12, I was driving the farm truck around the dirt roads like the Dukes of Hazzard!

So I don't think a 5.0 might be too much car just becsuse of age, more appropriately a person's driving skill.

If you can handle it, go for it! Learn it, live it, love it!

IMHO it is for the majority of 18 year olds. Not everyone is a Dukes of Hazard pro especially at that age or any age for that matter. I grew up driving with V8's as well but nothing high performance.

^^^ Agreed. There are always exceptions but the general advice given is quite sound. Too much power for most teens is asking for trouble (never mind the tickets, insurance, etc...)

Really? At 17, I bought my first car with my own money I'd saved from jobs I had worked since I was 14. I bought a Mustang with a 302. Sure I drove like a normal teenager but never got into an accident with another vehicle. I didn't get my first speeding ticket until I was 20.

I'd hate to think that I'm the exception to the norm. I say buy what you want & can afford. And know that if you break the law or if you are reckless, there are consequences. Enjoy it as much as you can. I think the lesson that is most often overlooked is that there are consequences.
