I watched Bullitt for the first time last night. 2 Questions that someone might me able to answer for me.....

1) Why is there no pony emblem on the front of the car?

2) what significance did the suitcases near the end of the film have??

Overall, apart from the bits of the film with the car in, it stinked!

The badges (and GT grille) were stripped because there were a few different cars used--some were GTs, the other's weren't. Instead of buying the badges to make them all look like GTs, they stripped all of them.

You have to remember when this movie was made the chase scene was ground breaking. No one had ever seen anything like it before. It can't be compared to todays movies but for it's time it was great.

Scheduled for 2006, rumor was Brad Pitt to star. Got the info from movies.com

Bullitt
Steve McQueen's Bullitt features one of the finest car chases ever put on film. Wolfgang Petersen (last in theaters with Troy) is behind this new take on the story. It'll be hard to top the 1968 action flick, even with the benefit of today's CG effects.

I say let the new charger come out & then use both new ones except this time the mustang will be running circles around the carger.

it would be pretty cool if they use an s197 in bullitt form (DHG color, dark bullitt rims, blacked out grill, etc.) and have the '99 concept charger. the production charger is a piece of crap

...there were a few different cars used--some were GTs, the other's weren't...
There were actually only 2 Bullitt cars. One was destroyed during (or after) filming, and the other currently resides in someone's garage in the mid-west. Its whereabouts are known to a few people in the publishing industry, but they're sworn to secrecy. Steve McQueen himself tried in vein to buy the car from its current owner - but he wouldn't budge.

Here's the story from one of the better Bullitt pages:
2 Mustang 390 GT were actually built and sponsored by FORD, both of them with exactly the same equipment acc. to Kevin Martis (Marti Auto Works) VIN research in the date files, he bought some years ago from directly from Ford.
The two BULLITT Mustangs had consecutive VINs.
According to an interview with Steve McQueen, one of the Mustangs was almost disintegrating during the jumps and had to be worked on a lot. It is rather likely that this car had been wrecked afterwards due to structural problems and liability concerns.
BULLITT insiders already knew since years that only one car survived. This surviving car with VIN 8R02S125559 has been unearthed by a spy some years ago after lots of stories embraced the myth of the original car. It is now in the hands of its third owner, located in a Kentucky barn waiting for its uncovering and restoration. The main problem is that the owner does not want to let it be uncovered to the public. It is said that the owner gave his family a promise to keep it, so we all have to wait, until he gets bored of rejecting offers.

I thought the movie was good, but I would like to know how they fit an 18 speed into that mustang . The car was a 4 spd but they shifted 18+ times while accelerating

I heard about the Kentucky rumour too.... Time will tell when (if) it is brought out of said barn.

Bullitt is an awesome flick... It was actually the first movie to portray an African-American as a Doctor..
I can't take Norman Fell seriously though... I keep waiting for him to make a goofy face then make fun of Jack Tripper.
