Axleback vs Catback

Is there any really difference between the two? I want to buy a exhaust system for my 03 Mustang GT but I dont know what is the difference between Axleback and Catback. Can you guys explain to me the difference between the two of them and which one would you choose

No difference. catback means from the H pipe back. The h pipe ends around the rear axle. Just different way to say it.

It depends on what you're doing. A lot of times you open up the air flow with a cat back system, and that can do a lot. Just depends on diameter, and then what axle backs you get. Just read about the differences between brands and such.

is it true that you cant put axleback on stangs 04 and older meaning you can only put them on 05 and newer?

Yes. Our cars along with previous model years had the mufflers on the front end of the axel while newer cars (05+) had the muffler locate behind the axel.

You typically do a cat back on the sn95s unless just wanting to get some new tips

DOH! I never realized the exhaust set up was different on the newer models over my older fox and an95 models

ok great to know..im trying to go a little cheaper route so i was thinking to purchase flowmaster mufflers and just attach to my stock pipes and then when i come into some money purchase a BBK x pipe do you guys think that would work good.
