2012 V6 Convertible or 2007 Shelby GT500?

So I currently own a 2006 GT Convertible I just finished paying off (woohoo!) I was ready to maybe do some Mods to it (CAI, etc.) but I saw a 2012 V6 Convertible and drove it. Yes it has less torque, but has just a bit more HP than my 2006 (300HP vs. 305HP). I also saw a 2007 Shelby with only 17,000 miles. It's not a convertible, but it is still a Shelby. The price for the two cars is about the same (34,000).

Which shall I choose? I'd love for you guys to chime in.....

Thanks.

Mod the one that'd paid off, unless you like making car payments.

Congrats on paying it off! If it were me and had to decide between the two, I'd buy the Shelby all day long.

But, I thinking keeping the 06 is the best decision.

I love my v6 because it is a great performer that is very capable as a DD. That said, mine is a base 6mt coupe (~$23,000). To me, $34,000 is too much to spend on the sixxer, unless you are more about the options than performance (in which case go for it!) but I don't think you are considering you were going to mod your 06.

If this is going to be a weekend car, or you don't care about paying for gas, go for the Shelby, you won't regret it! Or if you really want a vert, you could get an '11 5.0 vert for around that price.

It makes me happy though that a GT owner would even consider a new 6! Really shows the evolution of our beloved Mustang.

The Shelby without question, I have a 2007, blue with white stripes and a 2010 Shelby black with silver stripes...you will love the difference, night and day...

Cool I vote for keeping the 2006

First of all, a CAI without a tune will get you to the V6 305HP with more torque.
Second a good S/C set up (like my Saleen on my white 2006) will get you up to close to the 2007 GT500 HP for a lot less money than the difference between your trade-in value and the GT500.
That my thoughts.

GT500 --> get a pulley, get a tune and take the speed limiter off then have lots of fun.

This. My '08 GT has been paid off for almost two years. Sure it would be nice to have a new '13 Brembo GT or a new Boss Mustang, but for me it is much nicer having a Mustang GT that is paid for. If it is a huge step forward I may consider getting rid of my '08 GT for the next generation Mustang coming in a couple of years, but to get rid of my paid for V8 S197 Mustang to go back into debt for years for a newer S197 Mustang, even a Shelby GT500, just isn't something I want to do. I went through quite a few years of perpetual car payments, sometimes more than one at a time, I will still take out a loan on occasion for a car, but I always try and put down a sizable down payment and pay it off very quickly, and enjoy the time with no payments at all.
