1st trip; MPG and Clunk
1st trip; MPG and Clunk
Ive had my 2014 GT premium convertible for two weeks and took our first trip to VT last weekend. Roughly 400 miles with about half highway and half up, down and around in the mountains. I was pleased with an avg. 22 miles/gallon (and had fun to boot).
Question: I haven't owned a standard for a while and there is a noted slight clunk/noise in the rear when I disengage the clutch straight back from the floor. If I ease the clutch back it doesn't happen. I asked my wife if her car does it (VW Bug) and she said yes. Normal?
Thanks and soooo enjoying this car.

You might look at getting a "clutch pedal extension" .... huge difference in feel and seat position.
22 is all huh .... sounds like "lots of fun" or maybe just getting broke in? The fun will drop that number fast.
Congrats!

Congrats on your new ‘Stang! My name is Deysha with Ford Service, and I recommend you have it looked at by your dealer to make sure all is good. PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service for your area as well.

I am getting 23-24 back and forth to work, 32 miles round trip, 45 to 55 mph speed limits, level roads, two areas with 3 to 5 stop lights that are not sequenced or sequenced poorly, and when I leave work most of the time, I am stop and go for a mile or two before I get up to speed. I drive conservatively for the most part but have been know to leave a stop light quickly to test my tire traction. The traction usually fails.
Just returned from a 1,000 mile round-trip drive...averaged around 25 mpg on mostly rolling hills from east TN to central Illinois. That's at 70-75 mph and not testing my traction control during the trip
And yes, most manual cars will have some rear end noise when using the clutch. Try to ride in another Mustang and compare.
