'11-'13 BOSS Mustang Shift **** Install

Hi,

First time visitor. I have a 2012 Mustang 5.0 and would like to replace the shifter because the shift face keeps coming off. I'm looking at the 2011 - 13 Boss Mustang Shift **** and discovered I need the boot as well. Here's the item:

http://www.partscheap.com/Mustang-Bo...3z-7213-aa.htm

Can someone please explain how to install the boot on my Mustang?

Thanks,

Eric

Careful because I think I've heard that when put beside legitimate BOSS302 shift ***** the lettering doesn't look quite the same.

Not sure what you mean. Can you please clarify? If you think there's a problem with the install, can you recommend another one. I have a 2012 GT.

Hi Eric. When I first got my car, I wanted to replace the ugly stock **** with 'pool ball' and the one in BOSS looked just right until I found out these don't fit since the stock in GT has wider bottom adapter lol.

I was afraid/didn't want to remove parts/ replace boot on brand new car so I searched for alternative until came across Barton. There are tons of other brands but IMO these look very stock (especially the bottom adapter) like they came from the factory. Also improves missing 3rd.

But if you must go BOSS then hmm. I will probably end up MGW someday, only then I will take it apart change boot, etc otherwise not worth the trouble. My 2cents.

If you look up the directions to the Hurst shifter it will show you when I installed mine I had to remove the plastic cup without tearing the leather and zip tie it in glacé around a rubber grommet that came in the kit

There was someone on this forum(or another) who got the shift **** from partscheap (I was looking at the same **** so I was doing some research)... Idk if it's true, but the guy was somewhat upset when he realized that beside a legitimate BOSS302 shift ****, the one he got from partscheap was just a knockoff.

Either way it looks like one and probably nobody will notice, and it looks good so who cares. Lol

Partscheap.com is run by a guy (Paul) who works for a ford dealership. I've purchased several parts from there (including the BOSS ****) and they are genuine. I even had a problem with a strut tower brace being scratched and he was quick to send out a replacement. So good prices and excellent customer service.

On my Mustang, it came with equipment group 401A (Premier trim). This is the one with the billet shift ****. So replacing it was as simple as unscrewing the old and screwing on the new one. No adapter or boot replacement needed for me.
