10 Ford Mustang Model Years to Avoid
10 Ford Mustang Model Years to Avoid
In the subject article, the third vehicle to avoid is the 2016.

The article states: "if you are shopping for a 2016 EcoBoost V6, be sure to have it thoroughly inspected.". There never was a production Ford Mustang EcoBoost V6.

This must be the dumbest thing I have read in years. Now that's saying something. Somebody wants 'clicks'.
I was and am the proud owner of two of those cars on the list, 2007 and 2014. With over 15 years invested between them, I can say they are two of the best cars I have ever owned. No paint issues either.

I was expecting Mustang II cars from from the 70's, not modern cars.
This sounds like a 'hit' piece as well, almost as biased as the Consumer Reports 'reviews' of American muscle in the 90's and early 2000's where their dreaded black poor marks were all over my 1996 and 2001 F-bodies. Those two were right there with some of my favorite cars with minimal problems. I can still say that 24 years later with my Trans Am as I still have it. It has never let me down. Just hit 86,000 miles. .

Yes I too was expecting the Mustang II through most of the 80s Mustangs as the bad ones. I think most revision (big change) model years have some quirks but all are pretty good cars for the most part.

As much as I enjoyed my '82 GT back in the day, I do remember the build quality was certainly 'so-so' at best. After 6 years since buying it new off the showroom floor and with about 60,000 miles on it when sold, the car needed paint and new cloth seats. It was always garage kept too so no excuses. I weighed about 155 and my wife about 120 so we were not wearing out the seats. Just cheap material. The suspension was rather shot as well. Never an issue with reliability or engine/tranny stuff but it was the rest of the car.
Finally, I am #1 in something...well not me, but my 2006 Mustang. After almost 20 yrs of ownership, I've had simple issues: sometimes filling up gets wonky, and I used to have the battery drain issue. Other that that, it was and still is a SWEET ride.

On my previous "05"GT I also encountered the wonky gas fill issues... Ford replaced the fuel breather assembly located in the fuel tank under warranty... No more gas fill issues after that... Just out of curiosity, how did you solve the battery drain issue? The only way I was able to get around it was to purchase and install a battery tender whenever the car wasn't being operated... Other than that, the only thing about the 2005-early 2008 S197 models I didn't like was that dreaded 2-piece designed spark plugs which were well known for separating inside the heads during spark plug extraction... In the meantime, congrats on 20 years of ownership on your 2006 GT which is still a sweet ride indeed, to say the very least...

I had the gas filling issue during the first two years of ownership. Frankly, I did nothing to it and it went away. Not sure what did it, but I now fill up regularly with no issues. In my case, the stock radio created the battery drain...not sure how or why, but it did. I replaced the head-unit and problem solved. I do place the battery on a tender from time to time during long periods of standing with no driving...just in case. But, I recall early on, two weeks without driving it and wham...dead battery and I mean DRT (Dead Right There).
I have also replaced the battery 3 times in almost 20 yrs....which I think it's actually darn good. Always replaced it with Motorcarft....

@MadGT
Same here with the stock head unit, especially those which included the 6-CD changer that would drain batteries thru cycling for CD's while the vehicle was shut down... IIRC, you had to make certain to manually turn off the head unit before shutting down the vehicle in order to avoid the head unit from going thru the cycling process or disable it altogether by pulling the radio fuse... I actually went thru 3 batteries in less than 1 year, took my car to the dealership's service department 3 different times... On the third visit, I was instructed to leave the car for 2 weeks to be monitored for parasitic draw... Supposedly, a field service engineer was brought in from Detroit to perform the milliamp diagnostic testing... After the 2-week monitoring session was complete, I was informed the results were within normal specs as far as the milliamps testing was concerned...
The only recommendation I was provided with after going thru all my inconvenience during those 2 weeks without my car was to invest in a battery tender in order to avoid any future dead battery issues that may be caused by PCM modules/monitors running in the background, especially when the vehicle is not being operated for more than 10 days and over...At any rate, I couldn't understand nor make any sense out of this, but I suppose it is, what it is...

Yes! Memories which I've never forgotten, especially with the inconvenience with the dealership's service department during that 2-week period of having to be without my car...
