It sure seems like this site is down frequently.

Maybe it's just the specific time that I log on, but it sure seems like it's down an awful lot. Love the site, and love the comraderie, but sometimes it seems this new server just isn't cutting the mustard.
you beat me to it..
i've been noticing it lately.. sometimes the site stops responding alltogether, which was apparently fixed earlier last week after that prolonged downtime to re-index everything
but again, days like today, i noticed a 3-4 hours outage where calling any page gave back a 404 error..
and now.. i can't seem to upload pics properly (upon hitting the upload button, IE returns a "this page can't be displayed" error 3 out of 4 times)
i think it's time for a new server and or webhost!

Are you serious about doing something about it? Make a contribution and become a Team Mustang Source member. I'm sure Brad could use some monetary assistance in upgrading the server.
Agreed

Ladies and Gentlemen;
We too notice the downtime for some members, but I think the representation of "complete" downtime is inaccurate. The only complete downtime we've had in the past few weeks was for reindexing/maintenancing the database, which was a physical "turn off the forums" action. The rest of the time I think members are seeing high load turnbacks which to a user seems like the forums are down, but it's really a case of the forums denying connection attempts until it has the resources to answer your page request. (Ever wonder why you can see the website, but not the forums?) We are seeing higher than normal traffic loads that, I for one, can't put my finger on as to why. (We normally try to "guess" at traffic trends, but this one is totally unexpected) For example:
That is simultaneous users at the instant you loaded that page, not how many have been here in the past 15 minutes. This was just set 4 days ago at the height of "its down" reports. We've seen a marked increase in load levels that are now starting to bump the safeguards that are in place to keep the server from crashing due to overloading. As for the hardware, without getting into exact specifics, she's got all the nice features like: SCSI, dual-channel RAM, a lot of CPU power, Tier 3 network access. The server's got the horsepower, to a point. That point is where Mr. Barnett's wallet runs out of the green stuff. It is through contributions to the website in the form of purchases from The TMS Store and memberships to Team Mustang Source that will allow TMS to grow and meet the needs of the people. There is a direct correlation between cash flow and server resources, I hate to admit it but its the cold hard facts.
Now, please don't misread this post and turn it in to "OMG!!!11!1!!!, TMS needs money or else they'll turn off the forums"; that is NOT what I am saying. But I do want to remind you that there is only one person here at TMS that is affected financially when it comes to check writing time; this isn't some corporate-backed site aimed at drumming up product sales and brand marketing for a bunch of investors. TMS still is and will always be a site for the enthusiast, owned by an enthusiast, and supported by enthusiasts. Many of the "elder" members can remember a time (way back when the Mustang was first released
) when we couldn't handle many more than 10 users at a time. Those were some dark days, but through support of the membership TMS has been able to grow and expand to what it is today. We are just hitting another "growing pain" and I (only speaking for myself, but I probably echo the entire staff) greatly appreciate everyone's patience during this period.

I echo what the nerd (sendero) said.
Thanks Chris
