Your new setup with the small lettering makes it hard to read for me and that's with a 17" monitor, with the labtop at work is worst, almost impossible unless I get very close and personal with it. I can imagine I am not the only one.

Testing out a "more modern-looking skin" is fine. Making a product inconvenient or of lesser quality is not. If the change is financially motivated then it is understandable, if not, what's the point?

 

I use the 'IPB Pre-2.0 Skins' option down at the bottom left hand corner. I too find it somewhat difficult to read on my laptops. The skin option at the bottem fixed my difficulties.
