Hi all:

Found this forum on a google search for info on new wheels for my 2011 GT convertible. Just hit 32K miles, and the stock 18" Pirellis are now slick bald in back. When I told my 17 year old son I was buying new tires, he did multiple fat 360 burnouts. The video is quite a hit on his facebook page.

Being cheap I always wait until I burn thru my first set of donuts before I change the wheels on a new car. Amazed at the selection at E-Bay, check out seller rehagenracing's store. Many are stock Ford Racing or OEM parts taken off new Fords they were modifying for aftermarket upgrades and/or for track.

American Muscle has great selection too, but I think the quality of OEM parts on e-bay may be higher (and cost more). I am torn between staggered wheels (fatter 19 or 20" in back) vs 4 uniform wheels (probably 19"x9 or 9.5"), but leaning towards the latter. Not being to rotate tires between front & rear seems a huge sacrifice to me for the sake of slightly better handling and a somewhat cooler look. Plus going from my existing stock 235/50-18's to 19's in either 245/45 or 255/45 will already give me some instant gratification for spending $1,500 - $3,000 on new shoes, wvwn without going all the way to 20's (or even wider 19's) in back.

It just comes down to $: I bet I can get an extra 5-10K miles on tires I can rotate, for more even wear. Thoughts on any of this?

coffee4matt,

There's a ton of different options for wheels and tires as you've already figured out. I just wanted to add a little input that may help your decision. Staggered tire sizes isn't the worst thing for longevity. Not being able to rotate the tires isn't much of an issue than you would think. As long as the cars alignment is straight, there's really no need to rotate the tires.

Making sure the alignment is straight and all the suspension components are in proper operating condition, is key. I've only ever owned Mustangs with a staggered wheel setup. However, I've never once had an issue with uneven tread wear!

Hope this helps your decision. Also, let me know if you have any other questions!
