New 'Stanger Introduction
#1
I just bought my first Mustang! Been lusting after one for years, but with kids, working two jobs, and needing a practical (read "compact 4x4 pickup) vehicle that I could haul stuff for jobs around the house, I never could make it happen.
Well, the stars finally aligned for me. I convinced the CFO (wife) that my '91 Toyota 4x4 was getting pretty old (184,000 miles) and should be put into semi-retirement. I also convinced her that now (late December) was a good time to buy. Turns out that that last part was right!
Tuesday I bought a 2004 V-6 5-speed Deluxe trim level, RedFire with Dark Charcoal interior. I couldn't be happier. Sticker was $19,500 and I got the car for $13,800! I thought it was a pretty good deal, anyway. I was able to get exactly the color and equipment choices I wanted by shopping the dealer inventories on the internet, then going to the dealer that had the car I wanted.
Why did I choose a 2004 over a 2005? Several reasons. First, I like the 2004 body style (especially the hood without the fake scoop), and I especially like the 2004 interior over the 2005. I feel better having an iron engine block, and all of the 2005's are aluminum. I've driven V6 'stangs before (automatic rental cars) and feel that the current 3.8 or 3.9 has sufficient power for day-to-day driving, especially since I have a 5-speed. I understand that the 2005's use a "drive-by-wire" deal on the throttle, where the throttle pedal is an input to the computer, and the computer actually controls the throttle - this stuff kind of scares me. Finally, the dealers around here are getting $5000 over MSRP for the 2005's.
As I said, I bought the car on Tuesday, and Tuesday evening I parked it in my garage. Late Tuesday night the ice and snow storm hit (we've got about 8" of ice-encrusted snow on the ground now, and a Level-2 snow emergency is in effect), so the 'stang hasn't turned a wheel since! I spent all day yesterday washing and waxing it, but now I've run out of excuses to spend any more time in the garage!!!
bummer!

Congrats tpelle! Enjoy your new ride....at least when the snow and ice finally go away!
As for spending more time in the garage....come on! You can put duals on, CAI...something! lol
Man, I'd kill for a garage...heck, I'd almost kill for a concrete/asphalt driveway...that's my next project, when I can get out there and dig up the stone driveway and lay something more permanent.
Again, congrats and welcome!

My local dealer has no fewer than 5 '04 V6's on their lot for $12,495....
Plus they have 1 Black '05 GT and a white, red and lime green '05 V6's as well....didn't get prices on those, but they must be expensive, because they've been on the lot for over 2 weeks, for all of the cars.

Besides, you all know what a box-stock '04 looks like.

Hey! Welcome! Right there with you-kids and commuting killed the dream for years but I got mine the Saturday after Thanksgiving: 2004 V-6 Premium Competition Orange/Charcoal.
I love the mix of power and fuel economy and I agree: LOVE THE HOOD without the scoop.
Please post some pics so we all can have a look. Take a look at mine at the link below and WELCOME!
