NEW MUSTANG OWNER OF A MACH 1 2003
Hello fellow club members, I am William and new to the Mustang Source and new as far as owning a Mustang. My story is bitter sweet and some what entertaining. Three years ago I bought a Porsche 996 Carrera after my Afghanistan deployment, I called it my " I DID NOT GET BLOWN UP GIFT". I loved this car it did everything I commanded it to do except fly and make me hamburgers, I cant wait for the Porsche development team to make a 911 to do that as well. Fast forward to present time, on one of those very hot days my red light was flashing at me from the right corner of the temp gauge. Usually that means my coolant is low. When I get home popped open the trunk and checked my coolant reservoir. As soon as I saw the peanut butter/ butterscotch color in the reservoir tank my heart sank. I know it should be pink, and I knew what happened. After that my dream car got worst and worst, and was starting to turn into a nightmare. I knew I had to let it go and really could not afford to get a new engine for the car among other things that was needed now since I had oil in my coolant.
This year is the start of my military retirement and I knew I could not financially handle the cost of repairs for the Porsche. I said to myself, well if I cant afford my favorite European Car, I will get my favorite American sports car. Thus started the research journey into the Ford Mustang. There was only one style that really stuck out to me and that was the early 2000s. It was a toss up between the MACH 1 and COBRA, all the Cobras that I came across was to pricey and to far away. There was a MACH 1 literally right down street from where I live. The Mach 1 at the dealership had low mileage and asking price was just right. Went down, test drove it, and loved it, talked some turkey to the guys and bought the vehicle.
I love my new Mach 1, plus I learned so much from talking to other guys who own Mach 1's as well. They told me what to look for and what mods I should get to make it stand out and or fast. However the best thing I learned about my car was I bought someones upgrade and not a hidden problem child. I was at the Fairfax Circle car meet and came across the previous owner of the car, he told me the complete history of the car and the main reason why he let it go. First I want to say congratulations to him and his wife, for they have a new bouncing baby boy. Hince the reason he had to let the car go and get a 4 door car. He also shared with me that he hated to let the car go but had to keep his wife happy and make more room for his son. He did stress that he was happy that someone like me has taken the car and the plans I am going to do to upgrade the car.
So far I have:
Excedy Stage 2 clutch
Ford Racing Billet flywheel
Eibach Sportline lowering springs
K&N air filter (cleaned it really good)
fender air box delete (to help it breath better)
Saleen 17x9/10.5 black rims and Nitto tires
fixed black whip antenna 8"
