New guy hailing from Arkansas
Hey guys,
I've been lurking for a while and decided to finally hit the register button. I've been a fan of Mustangs as long as I can remember. I grew up loving the '66 that my Dad owned and I was crushed when he decided to sell it for a "more practical car."
I have flirted with getting a Mustang all of my driving life. My grandfather offered to buy me a '66 that had a "For Sale" sign on it in the local grocery store parking lot for my 16th birthday, but my parents vetoed him because “a 16 year-old doesn’t need a sports car.”
Fast-forward to Senior Year in High School, and I have been told that if I get a full ride to college then I can get a Mustang as a graduation present. Two months before I graduate I get that four-year scholarship and I drive down to the local Ford dealer and test drive a dark green 2001 GT. I come home to tell the parents about it, but they pull the plug on my dream pretty quick because it’s not in the budget. In retrospect, I’m glad that I worked hard and got a free degree, but man…my parents were master manipulators.
So I finish up college, go to grad school, get married, buy a house, sell a house, buy another house, have a kid, and buy a family-friendly car. I have now pushed off buying a Mustang for fourteen years. I’m turning 30 in December and I finally feel like my dream is going to come true. The wife has given me the go ahead, but I’m going to wait and see what Ford has up their sleeve for the 50th anniversary. If that doesn’t do it for me, I see a School Bus Yellow Boss 302 in my future. So…here’s hoping!
