Got a new track date set. Heading back to the track on September 11th. I couldn't think of a more American thing to do than drag racing on that day. I hope the rain stays away, but it is too far into the future to have any idea right now.

Well, it didn't run good, I was having major traction issues and then my throttle body crapped out on me and I had to cut the night short (I really should not have run it at all, it is a long story I had been trying to fix it all week, I thought is was my throttle position sensor, but when I got to the track I found out it was the actual throttle body...my car was just acting crazy). I ended up running a 12.5 @111 on a 2.0 short time as a best for the night, but my car was off, it was a horrible run and a bad track night. I won't make any excuses though, I just had a poor showing...I will get back to the track soon now that I have replaced my faulty throttle body and repaired my shifter (that is another long story...I just had a run of bad luck the few days leading up to the track day). Anyways, I am booked up solid for the next several weekends, but hopefully I can get back to the track soon for that perfect pass.

Still a good showing though. Of course not up to par with what your car can do... but we'll see

Thanks guys. I will get it back to the track soon hopefully...that is if I still have the car or if it still runs after this darn hurricane Rita passes through. But God willing I will get it back to the track. The ol goat is running REALLY good right now after the new throttle body and a little more tuning...I can't wait to get it to the track, it has a 12.1-12.2 in it easy.

That's why opinions are opinions, everyone's is different. I love the looks of my car. Also, I think people like to forget that the original GTO was just a plain 2-door "sedan" with a huge engine dropped in and a scooped hood. heck, there were 2 other pontiac models out at the same time with the exact same body. The looks were plain back then too, the difference is that the classics are looked back on more fondly and where known as muscle cars irregardless of what they looked like. I really don't get the "it is a shame to put GTO on it" concept. The modern GTO is more in line with the classic GTO than people like to remember or admit, the only real exception is that the modern day goat is much faster and performs much better.
I call myself "NewFordGuy" here because my new '06 Mustang is my FIRST ever Ford product. My first car was a '58 Pontiac Star Chief - 370 block, 285 horse. My first NEW car was a '64 GTO. I also had a '68 Goat 4 years later. As you say opinions are a personal matter. Mine was that the new GTO did not bring to mind any older GTO's so even though I freely admit, the new one is faster than my older ones were, it was not a GTO, TO ME. When I decided I wanted "one more cool car" in my life I first wanted a restored '64 GTO, like my 1st baby. But price, the fact that it would be basically a summer - weekend only driver (I live in the Chicago Metro area) I decided to go "new car". No nastiness meant here, but when I looked at the new Goat, (having had a '64) it just didn't say GTO to me. When I first saw the '05 Mustang, it LOOKED like a Mustang. That's when I decided to "Go Ford."
When you say that the '64 GTO was just a LeMans with a big engine and badges, you're pretty much right (except the suspension improvements & burnished dash). On the samr token though, the new GTO is just a Holden Monero with a big engine dropped in & badges added as well, isn't it?

In closing, it's all a matter of taste for each individual. Your car looks really good. I'm glad you like it as much as I like my new Mustang. I'd say we're both winners. Best, Bill
