Ye, I believe that all information you have is politics.... Same here too, actually.
Speaking about cars-no, car building is not the strong part of Russia and never been, except quite good off roaders like Niva, UAZ Patriot and few others. Main local brand here is Lada , they are quite cheap, but people mosltly prefer Asian and European cars. American models which sold officially are : jeep (few models$), dodge (2-3 models) , Chrysler (2 models) , Ford (European models plus edge and explorer), Chevrolet (European models plus camaro) But price politics of first 3 brands is quite strange and they are not so popular
