This is not for me but asking for a friend. They have a 2005 Gt, they literally just got it out of the shop last week well when they get it back it sounds like a rod is knocking they just had the top of the engine rebuilt (timing, etc.) if this will let me post a video then y’all can here. Personally they are saying it’s an exhaust leak but honestly I’m not for sure. (Please no hate)

 

I'm Gonna Call In The Expert on This But It Sounds Like Both a Bad Top End Job and an Exhaust Leak. Either Way You Don't Deliver a Car to an Owner Like That!

You aren't lying on that. Once the worker was done with what customer asked he didn’t have to pay for what was done. Worker let them go. Also to add when they hit the gas sometimes the noise goes away (believe that’s what I was told) like I said asking for a friend

 

Hopefully They Did Not Damage it More Than What They Supposed To Be Repairing. Love To See The Repair Order on This! If This Kind of Repair Was Submitted as Being Done At Any of The Dealerships I Had Worked at The So Called Tech Would Be History and a Competent One Would Have To Clean Up The Mess! Not Just Kick The Car Out The Door!

OK, sorry for the delay on this but I finally got a speaker added to fix my PC....Anyway. while this is video and hard to say definitively, the first video sounds like Definite valvetrain noise to me. Now on this engine if they don't have the timing set absolutely perfectly then you can get piston to valve contact and would cause a noise similar to this or worse. I've had multiple DIY customers in the past do their own work without knowing and ended up with very similar noises. One of those dropped a valve, turned the valve into a pretzel and cracked the block. If you do a compression test it can rule out the possibility of a bent valve. Pulling a valve cover you can inspect and look to see if there is a loose rocker or any other visual issues. But the first video is most definitely NOT an exhaust leak. It sounds too tinny or metal contacting sound similar to ones I've heard in the past.

The Second video from a different angle still gives me the same impression but I can see where someone MIGHT say it's an exhaust leak. But I still maintain that there is something going on in the top of the engine, it definitely doesn't sound like a rod knock to me in the recordings.
