Another new guy!
Hi Everybody. I'm Tom. I've been lurking on the site for a few months, figured I finally ought to register. I bought my first Mustang ever, a 2007 Mustang GT 5 speed in Alloy one month ago today (after Ford teased me with their shipping shenanigans for 4 weeks). I've loved Mustangs since I was a kid, but waited 13 years after seeing the first one that turned my head (a 93 Special Edition Convertible in yellow on my 16th birthday) to finally get my own.
I've been waiting to get this car for a long time. The Foxes were always nice, but they lacked a little something. The SN95's never quite did it for me either. A classic 66-70 fastback had the style I was looking for, but prices for cars in the condition I wanted were horrendous. None of them really fit in my post-college budget as I was getting my first house. Finally in 2004 the S197s came, and I knew I had to get one. Ordering wasn't an option, because I'm impatient. Buying off the lot turned out to be a boondoggle, as stocking dealers around here were charging ~4k over sticker, and no way was I paying that. Finally, after buying the second house, getting a promotion at work, and everything seemingly nicely settled down in my life, I picked up this Mustang.
Before the first payment I had to get some mods in. I picked up a Steeda CAI and SCT tuner locally and had my first spin on the dyno on Wednesday. I was a little disappointed at the numbers (250 before, 267 after) but I take solace in the fact that the car is still breaking in (<2k miles) the gas was crappy. I picked up a few dress-up parts from MGW to brighten up the dark charcoal leather interior (cupholder bezel, 12V thingamabob, door pins) last week, and today I swapped on a 3dCarbon GT500 style spoiler in place of the stock GT spoiler. I plan on adding a few more "show" parts (GT/CS front and rear fascias, new wheels), and plenty of "go" parts (3.73's, FRPP Handling pack, full exhaust, power adder) over the next year or two. I plan on owning this car for the rest of my life, so I figure I ought to do it right.
My rather embarrassing lack of digicam means I can only post this camera phone shot of my car the day I brought it home.

So far, so good. Since I got the computer reflashed the other day, it's been idling really fast when I start'er up first thing in the morning, but I'm guessing that'll go away soon. Mileage has been better than I expected. ~20 mpg in mixed city/highway when I keep my foot out of it, high of 29 on the highway with the cruise control set at 69 (everyone and their brother was passing me), low of 15 on my first tank of gas from the dealer, when "keep your foot out of it" wasn't part of my vocabulary.
Well, it's past 9 here on the East Coast, which means it's time to go out for a drive. Later!
