2014 Mustang GT on its way...

Last week I ordered a '14 Mustang GT in Sterling Gray (to go with my '65 coupe in Silver Smoke, and '03 convertible in Metallic Silver- yeah, I like silver). I really wanted a Boss 302- but pickings at the dealer are getting pretty slim on those, and I wanted a bunch of options that don't seem to come on the Boss (or at least not on any of the remaining '13s).

The options I checked off on the order form were:
401A - interior trim (in Brick Red- to somewhat match the bright red interior on my '65)
Track Package (brakes, 3.73 diff, etc.)
Comfort Package (heated seats, etc.)
Electronics Package (nav, expanded SYNC features, etc.)
Accessory Package 1 (I'll probably take the louvers off though)
Rear Camera
Glass Roof

The only mods I plan to make after delivery/break-in will be the Boss / CAI intake and the GT500 axle back exhaust from FRPP.

I'm going to check with the dealer on Friday to make sure they have received a DORA. The original estimate for delivery they gave me was 6-8 weeks... but I'm preparing myself for a 2-3 month wait (hope not though).

Anyway, looking forward to talking about new Mustangs for a change (spend most of my forum time on Vintage-Mustang.com).

Always happy to share pics of the cars...

The bottom two pictures are pretty recent of the '65 (I installed disc brakes in March, which allowed me to go with 5 lug rims). Unfortunately, I was rear-ended on the way to work a few weeks ago. While they were fixing the damage, I went ahead and had the rocker panel moldings removed- and I've since changed the center caps on the wheels from the chrome cups to a billet style tri-bar pony emblem.

The '65 gets driven the 36 mile round trip to work and back any day when there is 0% chance of rain and my traffic app shows no jams (about 3x per week). It has a straight six with a T5 speed manual (nice combination).

The other daily driver is a red BMW Z4 coupe (that's what the '14 Mustang is replacing).

if you can spare the extra coin, consider also adding the Shaker Pro, good and easy solution to have a radio that isn't missing the bottom end so much.

You pretty much ordered exactly what I would have if I had gone for a coupe.

The brick red is going to look so good in the SGM. Especially since that's what you've got on the 65

I actually had the Shaker Pro checked off on the form- until I did a test drive in a car with the regular Shaker system in it (which is not all that bad). My son has a bunch of friends that work at a car audio place (CarToys or something like that), and they've promised me that with a budget of $1250 (the cost to upgrade to the Shaker Pro) they can make the 375W Shaker system sound just awesome (we'll see).

The brick red is going to look so good in the SGM. Especially since that's what you've got on the 65.
I bought the '65 from the original owner's widow (lived its entire life in Ft. Worth), and it was completely unrestored in what I assumed was its original Wimbledon White with red interior. I went with the Silver Smoke instead of the white- but when I drove it back to show the lady I bought it from (I promised I would show it to her once it was restored), she said "Oh, you painted it back to its original color- that's nice!"

According to her, they ordered the car in silver- but the paint peeled within a few months, so the Ford dealership repainted it in white (apparently Ford did have trouble with the metallic Silver Smoke paint). The red interior of my '65 is one of my favorite features (and I did all the interior work- so that makes me appreciate it more).

The two things I'm looking forward to most is seeing the brick red and the glass roof (oh, and using the track apps to see how close I can get to the 0-60 time of 4.3 I've seen listed for the GT).

Varilux, I'm glad to see another '14 Mustang ordered.

I'm new to the forum but, I'm not new to Mustang ownership. I've owned 2 in the past. A '69 fastback (390/4spd), then an '07 GT (auto/performance white/red leather). Since then, I thought I would be a more practicle homeowner and exchange my GT for a truck. Bad mistake. The '11 Ranger XLT 4x4 is a good truck, but a gas sucking hog. Being the Ranger has only 4,800 miles on it now and my neighbor friend (Dual Ranger owner) said he would loan me his spare Ranger when I needed to haul something, I ordered a '14 Mustang GT on 4/9/2013. It won't be a premium coupe with most of the options like my '07. I ordered a Race Red base GT, MT-82 and Track Pack. I've had my fill of leather seat wear, so medium stone cloth is what I'll be parking my butt on soon. I no longer require all the bells and whistles, just break-neck power and speed when I want it. I can hardly wait for my new Hoss to arrive.

Welcome to the forum. That 65 is a really great car. I would drive it as much as you do if I had one as well. The interior is very well done too. You are going to love the new car. What Z4 do you have that is getting traded in? I had an 08 with the Sport Package and the paddle auto. Loved that car too.

I currently drive an '07 Z4 3.0si Coupe- red with tan interior, sport package, with the 6spd automatic with paddle shifters. I really like the body of the coupe- and the fact that you just don't see a lot of them on the road. I've always wanted to own a BMW- but I see 3 series all over the place- so the Z4 coupe was the perfect solution for me. Prior to this car, I had a Saab 9-3 Aero convertible which was 330hp of Swedish greatness. Prior to that was a Jaguar X-Type (with a turbocharger, that would have been the ultimate sedan- loved that car).

There's a lot of Mustangs out there- but I figured the red interior and glass roof should make mine a little unique anyway. I absolutely love my '65- and plan to keep its original straight six. I'm guessing the '14 GT with the 3.73 gear should scratch the "go fast" itch!

I just got my build date yesterday- 13 May (its a Monday- but being the day after Mother's Day should ensure no one is recovering from a bender the day before).

The Z4 coupe is one of my all time favorite cars. I really wanted an M Coupe but couldn't find one close enough for me. I almost bought a silver Z4M vert but went home to think it over without putting a deposit down and came back the next day and it was sold. Won't do that again. I may buy another one day. Keep us updated on the new ride.

Here was mine..
