Cool 2003 Roush 380R

Hey everyone,

My name is Michael, and I am 29 years old currently over here in Afghanistan. Just bought my first Mustang which just so happens to be a 2003 Roush 380R, it had 38k miles on it and in excellent condition so I pulled the trigger on it. I have a good buddy that has been trying to get me into a Mustang since 2005 that has been consulting me all the way, so right now he's sort of like a proud father to see me get in a Mustang of this caliber.

I am currently scheduled to come back to the states for R&R in the July/August time frame and I will be flying to go pick it up. I bought a Countour+2 Action camera and suction cup mount to record the drive back.

I can't wait to get this car producing some good numbers. I also look forward to being one of the few 380R's out there doing something. See you guys on the forums

Just wait until I post the video from the drive home from my Contour camera mounted on the outside. We are taking the "Tail of the Dragon" back home, one section is 113 turns in 11 miles in the Smokey Mountains.

All Roush 380R's begin with the standard Mustang GT that has been tweaked via a Roush M90 blower on a specially designed intake manifold fed by Roush's own fuel system and custom OBD-II computer calibration. Output catapults from 260 to 379 hp (at 5,250 rpm) and 302 to 380 lb-ft (at 3,000 rpm) as measured at the flywheel. (The difference between the original 360hp 360R engine and this one is an upgraded engine management system). That tire-smoking grunt, by the way, develops 1,000 rpm lower than it does in the stock motor, due in part to the efficacy of an air-to-liquid intercooler that promises 6 psi of positive manifold pressure at 2,250 rpm. To liven throttle response even more, the motor spins a 20-pound aluminum flywheel.

I also enjoy the rarity of the 380R, which by numbers I believe is the most rare of the "R" type Roush Mustangs. Only 62 were made in total in 2003, 38 of them being the black and gold color you see here on mine, 30 coupes, 8 convertibles.

Here is the story, so back in 1966 Shelby made an arrangement with Hetz rental car company. So in 1966 you could rent a Shelby GT350 "H" which meant Hertz. It's was the Shelby rent-a-race-car of the 60's. There are stories about guys renting one for the weekend and changing the motors with their factory Ford ones then turning the car back into Hertz LOL..

In 2005 they made a limited edition Shelby GT-H which was the same thing but not as cool because it came with only an Automatic.
