Apparently, cops were checking the dormrooms while the gunman was shooting up the classrooms.

I blame the school, staff for not alerting the police properly.

actually i heard on the radio that the first attack in the dorms was classified as an isolated crime, a big mistake by the cops

i read that the first attack was classified a a domestic attack and the gunman fled. purely a coincidence that they happened on the same day

that is what the police thought at first (domestic)... they were both done by the same person.
Seems like the shooter was looking for his girlfriend

It is very sad.

It is very easy for people to second guess what should have been done after the fact. The only person to blame is the shooter sure VT might have made some mistakes but how do you stop one person bent on killing others and knows he is going to die committing this act.

Something has got to be done about the legallity of assault weapons and high capacity clips. I heard the guy had two 9mms. There's no way he was stopping to reload, so he obviously had big clips. I'm sorry, but there is no valid reason to have them but to mow down bunches of people at a time.

Very true. It's very difficult to ascertain who the shooter might have been in the chaos that ensues. The dorm houses over 800 people. If the guy was using hand guns he could easily conceal them and simply disappear into the mayhem. I think protocol should dictate that all entrances and exits be sealed until the perp has been located. They should also have video surveilance of all entrances and exits so they can see who recently entered or exited the buildings and when.

Please don't blame the school. I am a student here at tech and was 100 yards away from everything and watched it all unfold. The school did everything possible within reason. A madman will do what he will do, and hindsight is always 20/20.

Also please pray for everyone involved both the injured and the ones who weren't able to make it; these were young people and faculty at the primes of there lives. Again please pray for everyone involved.

I just hope the families find the strength to deal with the loss of their loved ones. In cases like these the media always focuses on the shooter, and all the things that could have been done to prevent it. I think we all ought to take the time to show some love to the people close to us. you never know when tragedy will strike, and change everything. take a little time and let your people know they are loved.

I am glad you survived this vtdude. my prayers go out to you and your schoolmates, and families.

We need more love thats all. no amount of security measures are going to stop some freak from killing people, but a little love might have...

I'll go one further >> why is it that anyone can just walk into a gun shop in this state and buy a mini arsenal with no background checks required?

My condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.

If anyone still thinks that "guns don't kill people", this should be the last chance to think again.

all such events are tragic and terrible.. but a man in such a mind set will carry out his " mission " of madness any way he can .. before we get on the ban all weapons of such had he not had the guns he probably would have had a bomb.. had he not had a bomb he would have unleased a poison ,, if not a poison then perhaps a knife ..ETC ETC ETC

Maybe, but while hand guns can nowadays apparently be bought even by a foreign student in the US, a bomb or a poison would be much more difficult to make or purchase, thereby delaying the accomplishment of the killer's "mission" and allowing him maybe more time to contemplate his decision and the possible repercussions thereof.

I seriously doubt that a gun ban would spur the same public reaction as the alcohol prohibition did in the 1920's. It's not like people can't live without guns, right?
