OK Gary is a bit of a movie guy. Heck I have a freakin' home theater that truth be told set me back more than the stang. So since I am older than some of you, Arin, and I know you watch alot of anime, ergo you watch alot of movies, I'm going to give you a must watch list. Feel free to give me the same, as I am older and might have missed something, or perhaps some indie movies because I tend to pay little attention to them.
Gary's faves:
No particular order here, too hard to rank these:
1. Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back (4 and 5 I guess)-These movies caused me to fall in love with movies to begin with
2. Star Trek The Wrath of Khan-Original cast when they were still good, plus Ricardo Montalban, can you say "fine Corinthian leather" old reference there
3. Amadeus-Brilliantly written, acted, produced, sheer genius, I viewed myself as a tortured Salieri for many of my early college years of life, plus the most awesome soundtrack ever!
4. Excalibur-Very cool English produced version of the telling, another great soundtrack. Featuring Wagner's Siegfried Funeral March from the Ring and Orff's "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana. The latter has been overdone a bit much of late, but in 1981 this blew my mind. Also I saw this in theaters as a 9 year old. It is very rated R for nudity and extreme viloence. Love the gizzard on the spear as Mordred spears his father. Throw the **** sword in the lake Perceval, geez, what a slacker!
5. Henry V-yeah it's long and can be boring, but it is a great story of an old fashioned *** whooping. My ancestors are English and Welsh so it's like a big pep rally for me. From this Shalespearean play we get the famous "Band of Brothers" saying in the feast of Crispian speech.
6. 2001 A Space Odyssey-Again awesome song, HAL, and questions of who we are and where do we come from,
7. The Usual Suspects-Very good, Kevin Spacey at his best when he's not being a flaming liberal in real life.
8. Fight Club-I hesitate to put this in here, but I am ans Edward Norton fan, perhaps the better film would be American History X
9. North by Northwest-Watched this as a kid anytime it would come on. My mother was always into old movies. Cary Grant and Hitchcock at their best.
10. Full Metal Jacket-Another Stanley Kubrick film. Freaky stuff. Love R. Lee Ermey as the drill seargent and Vincent D'Onofrio is just scary crazy in this. Man those soap bars must have hurt. And "Drop your ***** and grab your socks", also I could be wrong but I think this movie is the origination of the lines "Me so horny, me love you long time" said by a Saigon hooker.
There are so many more, but these movies shaped my life in some strange way or another. They all have special place with me. I was 15 when I saw Full Metal Jacket. At the time I wanted a military career as a fighter pilot, afterward I wanted nothing to do with it. So I guess as liberal propaganda it worked on me at the time, I was not "hardcore".

I think I'm going to try and make the ultimate teenage male testosterone movie film extravaganza list soon 
, not tonight though I'm a bit exhausted
and actually, I watch only a litle anime. I only care for the Gundam Series', and even then, not all of them. Dragonball I havent watched in years. I've only dabbled briefly in the other ones.
Sigh.. I don't have time to watch all the ones I want to watch

Yeah. Pretty much every Vietnam movie ever made is a propaganda movie. Hell most every movie made in Hollywood is a propaganda movie. You just have to overlook those things, otherwise you'll never watch another movie again. BTW Vincent D'Onofrio is a pig and an ***, but he makes one scary psychotic private!

Oh you can also black out the room, shut the door, and crank it up as loud as the speakers will take, and the family can still sleep in their rooms.

It has great equipment, but it's not overly done. I don't have th epopcorn maker or the actual theater seats. I prefer a nice comfy sofa and an ottoman to actual theater seating. It's got 106" of 1080p with 140watts through 7 channels and a 1000 watt sub. It'll do. Personally I prefer watching the Cowboys and Longhorns in HD on it over movies.
Oh you can also black out the room, shut the door, and crank it up as loud as the speakers will take, and the family can still sleep in their rooms.

I am a movie geek to of sorts, Tarantino is my fav writer/director period. Love all the typical guy movies, comedies, etc.

If I had to pick an alltime favorite Arin, a must see if you will, I'd pick Amadeus. I know it seems artsy, but this movie speaks to those who get it. It is so very tragic. It's not your typical shoot 'em up, not that there is anything wrong with that, but it is literature on the screen. Amadeus is so very great, and he actually is, yet dies so very young. And yet his accomplishments dwarf almost all with the exception of maybe Beethoven, who lived quite long. You just feel for the characters. And the old saying "There's no great genius without a touch of madness."

Well when you think they suck don't blame me. Some of them are at least 3 hours long. It takes a certain person at a certain time in their life to truly get these. Being college age you're just right. I would think you would really like Excalibur, its basically fantasy.

I think it will also depend on how i feel when i start to watch them. I like alot of long movies, but I can't just watch them whenever. Like when I want to watch any of the LOTR films, I have to be willing to put in a 3 hour commitment lol
