I understand that you should pick you battles, but I don't think you should result to butkissing to avoid a possible conflict.

I know you have to result to harsh measures sometimes, but banning colors is not going to stop gangs. Maybe they should inact some serious punishment on the ones involved in the problem rather than absurdly punishing everyone.

talked to my buddy in student govt. i now know why the darn commies did it. in the even that there is an incedent of gang violence at our school and someone is injured, ANY student or their parents can press charges for not preventing. the school made this rule as a scapegoat so that in such an event they can say "yeah we did try to prevent this from happeneing, but it didnt work"

now they have a scapegoat. as absurd as it is, this is viewd as preventative measures, so we're pretty much being @#$%ed over by our school cuz they dont wanna deal with our problems. comforting isnt it?

unless of course we can prove that this ISNT a preventative measure, and that it is in fact, asuseless and absurd as i've been ranting that it is. hey, my parents said i couldnt make and circulate a petition. they never said i couldnt sign one. i was right in thinking that im not the only one who's pissed.

this is gonna be an interesting next few weeks

Normally i'd say wear a shirt that has red all on it, but its hard to win against administration, because they can suspend you just for talking back to them. It's all about getting a legit interview and just letting the school see they really don't think some of the policies through, mandatory belts, detention the 1st time you are tardy to school and saturday school the 2nd time, some of the things they think of are ridiculous.
Banning colors is ludicrous, i don't know how it is at your school but there are no real "gangsters" at my school,(although i have been noticing an increase in ricers, they started a car club so i will have to take the mustang to show them a real car) and who would be dumb enough to pull like a gang shooting or violence at school, thats like 100% your going to jail!!

exactly! but the sad fact is, that there are in fact a bunch of gangs at our school. you can tell by the way the walk and how they act. theres this superiority factor that they think they have, and they wont take $ from anyone. i've seen some crazy fights and massive brawls. but the thing is (which is actually kind of worse...) that the gangs in my school arent seperated by 'colors' in the sense of red and blue. more like s in race. theres african american gangs, hispanic gangs, pacific islander gangs, no real caucasian gangs that i have seen, but yeah. personally its worse when its like that, than it is with colors.

but in any case, gangs are some bad @#$%.

lol, i walked out of our house today in a red shirt and red shorts with a red hat, but my mom got a phone call the day ebfore so, back in i went to *change* i put a black poor on and tan pants over and that was it. i took em off right as i entered my morning class. i timed it so that i wouldnt be at achool untill we had like 5 min till school starts and i took off the black shirt, kept the pants cuz it was cold./ my AP US Hist teacher was like NO! TAKE IT OFF< ITS NOT ALLOWED. there goes the point i was trying to make. whats strange is that i did not see a single white person wearing red/blue habve to remove anything. so not cool. heck all i really wanted was to wear all red for my school pix, i want to be remembered as the diehard niner fan i am.

im still pissed, and i will be for quite a while, until this is fixed

OK, that's a whole different issue. If you're certain of this, keep aware of it. Each day see how what you wear compares to what others wear and if certain kids are being singled out because of race.
Make certain your perception is correct and what you're seeing is fact.
Don't jump to conclusions or rant. If it's consistent after a few days (say watch what others are wearing all of next week and who gets away with wearing red or blue), take that issue to your parents.
If true, that is something to be concerned about.

Edit: Regarding the school pics, usually they have a picture "make up day" for whoever missed the scheduled day. Possibly if you explained it to those in charge at your school they'd let you take another pic and wear it just for that. I'd be a little uncertain how they could justify a picture in the book could be disruptive to the educational process.

about the singling out, i dont recall a single one of my white freinds being pulled aside....

but then again it was the first day, so im going to keep an eye out. didnt mean to jump to conclusions, just trying to explain what i saw today. i mean, its kinda strange though. this one kid, wearing blue jeans, blue shoes, a blue teeshirt and a blue button up shirt over it all and nothing happens when he's talking to teachers or even talking to security guards. same with two other of my friends, wearking bright red. i know for a fact that they are not related to any gangs, but c'mon, do I really look that much like a terrorist?

im not saying its 100% true, i dont know for sure, but i'll be keeping an eye out.

and about retakes, i kinda dont want to know, hehe, i like being able to say "my hair is so big it got cut off in the picture" :P since it was only cut off on one side, if i take a retake i might not have it cut off.... so retakes are out of the Q for me.

Here we're not allowed to wear clothes with the confederate flag on it since people view it as hatered (sp) to black people. Everyone I know wears those shirts (usually) to show respect for their ancestors. The stuff they do nowadays is just plain stupid.
man I just hate ignorance, why dont people get an eduacation, the confederate flag never represented hatred or slavery, the civil war wasnt even about slavery, the North owned slaves and so did Abraham Lincoln, the reason slavery became an issue was so that the North could win the war, they saw an opportunity to have black people fight on their side and as an incentive they promised the idea of abolishing slavery if the North had won, which they did and they kept their promise as it was more important to have won the war than it was to own a slave, especially for the more industrialized north, and so everyone remembers that, thats not how history really went down. I hate ignorant people, wear the darn confederate flag if you like, its your right.

and for the no red or blue issue you should do a civil protest and get a shirt that say proud to be an american on it and has a picture of the American flag on it and is color schemed in red, white and blue. if they suspend you for that they will have a great day in the press dealing with that one.

I would wear a maroon and light blue shirt. see what they say. Make them define what is actually blue and red. Be a pain in their hineys.

"those that can't do teach...and those that can do....do"

Public High School teachers are the worst...and I wouldn't miss a chance to out smart them. They can't ban a color.

What if in a class room...there is a painting with red on it? then the rival blue gang gets pissed at trashes that room because it had red in it. So now people can't wear red...but also you can't have it at school.

very ridiculous. instead of banning a color...why not go after these known gang membrs and expel them. I am sure its easy to tell who these jerks are at your school...I am sure they flaunt their gang's colors so its is obvious.

furthermore...you are right....they are commies. Liberalism is a step away from socialism, which is just as close to communism. Don't let anyone try to sugarcoat that fact. the left here in america loves to see our citizens be controlled by the government to an extreme extent and would love for us to become a truly socialist society.

Look at this hurricane disaster. Michael Moore and most of the liberal media in this country are immediately blaming our president for not "going in there and walking through the streets". But just 4 years ago, after September 9, 2001....the same people criticised him FOR going in to new york..as it was a cynical ploy on his part.

I hate seeing our rights being taken away...because a few minoritys in gang clothes decide to choose a color. And please don't respond with words like "racist" and "racial profiling" because a majority of gangs are minoritys. I am not a fool, there are white gangs....but most are not.

Remember what happened in London...the bombings? After that, they started searching every 3rd passanger (maybe it was 4th) on the subways in new york.

Now, what sense does that make? Are we really going to search a 70 yr old grandma's purse for a bomb......well they did. Why not stop every 20-30 yr old young male from an arab country....because thats who do the bombings. When a 70 year old grandma from jersey blows herself up...then I will admit I was wrong. But until then, I wish people would stop being so concerned with "hurting other people's feelings" and start protecting our citizens in a logical and intelligent manner.

ok wow....Sorry to go off on a tangent.

Bout time someone gets it, or is willing to say it at least.

BTW I wish we would stop this: "Compass also warned that if anyone did anything disruptive, the troops would have to stop distributing the food and water and get out." Just deal with the ones that are causing the problems and get it over with. If you shoot the first guy (just in the leg, jeeze), the second guy will probably think twice.

And keep at it Arin.

Send some one dressed as Uncle Sam. Red, white and blue reprosent people who are the fabric of this country. I guess if the gang wear's shoes we can't wear shoes? They are nuts. Have your parents address the issue. Being 16, no one will listen. Let the adults be your voice. I for one are behind you all the way. I guess it's ok that the girls go to school almost nude and they boys showing their underwear. What the HL is wrong with people. You know I say this all they time. The problem is that we as normal as we are are in the minority. There are more of them and less of us.

And we don't have control of this country.

scouted around a bit today. sorry for the confusion, there are some caucasioans being pulles aside. i guess the calsses i was in yesterday werent as keen on enforcing, as it was the first day. hope i didnt get anyone too riled up.

thanks for the support guys. Arin learned something: all you hafta do is say "whups, i forgot, still getting used to all this" and you change ur shirt and you're off the hook!

commie turds, Arins not stopping. i need to get a button up American Flag shirt to wear...

i'd like to see them tell me to take off the flag...

but then again, people were wearing the USA flag on Cinco de Mayo last year and were told to remove it. but i think thats to counter the 'incedent' of the year before our quad has these giant step type things, at the top all the non-hispanics touted the red, white and blue, and the red, white and green wearping hispanics were at the bottiom. im not proud of this, but there was a HUGE brawl. litterally hundreds of people

you know like in the lord of the rings, the two sides like charge and you're right in the middle (i was on the 50 yard line, so to speak) and BOOM they clash? thats how it was. you could hear the chanting too "U S A" on top and "Mex i Co" on the bottom. it was nuts

Starr- my parents wont help me out. they agree with the school!!! they dont want me to put myself in danger! i was like "mom, i've worn a red niner tee every day for almost 5 years (this Xmas baby! ) and i've never been hurt b/c of it. i've been at this school for 2 of em. nothungs gonna happen." and besides, im confident that if someone tries to take me out in the hallway that i an take care of myself. i didnt totally suck at football you know. also she doesnt want me getting in trouble b/c "it might compromise my chances of getting into college" i told her it might actually help! something to write about in my app. essay and plus, colleges like to see that ur devoted to do something in your community n stuff. people bettter get used to hearing this 16 year olds voice, cuz i aint shutting up (much to the dismay of many a member, im sure )

all i can do is keep my hopes up and wear what i want. its worse than like a uniform at a private school, they are allowed to do that. PUBLIC schools arent

Sorry hun, wish you were my son. My Tyler is 15, I always back him up. That is what parents do. I love him and don't want him to be hurt either, but when the school does some dumb thing I speak up and never shut up. It is not like you are starting a fight. There are too many other things they should be worried about. Drugs, guns, and control. The school and parents have lost control. Teachers are too afraid to teach. Again I am sorry. Wish I could help. You can alway count on me.

Yes, they are. If you want to win this fight you need to understand what you're up against. Dress codes in schools are nothing new.

This goes back decades. Do you think in the 1950's those in charge - who were certainly not commies or even friendly toward them, research the time - did not implement dress codes? They did. Reasoning was in essence the same, but then it was preventative, now it's a reactive attempt at control.

So stop with the "commies" comments, they're not accurate, not helpful, and do nothing to help your case.

Don't go forward with an attitude of entitlement. The school is within their bounds here.

That doesn't mean it cannot be challenged. But if you don't do it in the proper frame of mind you have no hope of succeeding.

You might want to clarify here that you back him up when you think he is in the right. If he said "I want to buy a motorcycle and drive 120mph down the highway with no helmet while drinking beer", I doubt you'd back him up.

I hope not.

I'm all for giving Arin suggestions on how to handle this, but I don't think it's proper to undermine the parental authority in a situation you're not directly involved with. His parents know more about this than any of us and could have extremely valid reasons for their position.

lol, dont worry about that. i've accpeted the fact that im not getting a motorcycle till im living on my own

i dont think anyone is undermining their authority, i mean its not like anyone is coming here to yell at the admin.

and i thought i layed off on the "commies" comments, except when joking around

dunno if i mentioned this already, but i think on tuesday im going to wear an American flag button up shirt over a white niner Tshirt.. the shirt would be ~40% red and 40% blue and 10% white. in theory its not predominantly red or blue. so they cant call me on that. they speicifically said 'predomintantly red or predominantly blue shirts' so i think im safe there. if not... well, they just made me take of the American flag. not gonna be a favorable move for them.

Don't ever resort to Private school- been there done that. It sucked and cost me roughly the purchase price of Eleanor. I'd rather put up with Government schools BS for free and straighten out my kids when they get home.

Our kids schools have stupid rules too- Black or brown belts only because gangs may wear other colors No Ski Jackets- same reason.......
Oh and now- no fun stuff in packed lunches- we wouldn't want the school to be responsible for your kid getting fat.
My kid got his donuts confiscated. They can have cheese and fruit for side items only if you pack their lunch.
