Okay TEXAS!! Get Out if you're near the Houston or shore area.

Our site will be down tonite through tomorrow moring, so we won't be able to check in on you folks.

20-25 foot WALL of WATER is expected, in the Galveston area, and it WILL run up the shipping channel to Houston.

Galveston is Already underwater in most area's and sea walls have been breached. This storm is still 100 miles out in the Gulf.

Leave now. This is not meant to be crude. BUT if you stay. write your SSN# on your arm, so you can be identified when it's over!!

Howdy from the west side of the Houston Metroplex *waves, alibeit a bit tiredly*

Ike has been... and almost gone. Whew is what I have to say.

I am holed up at my parent's house, they managed to come through with internet, power, water, even a 12V tv on an inverter so as when the power blips, the TV's still workin'. Cute little thing.

Their house is fine, the grille got knocked over. That's it.

My sis's house is fine... no power, no water though. That's where I spent the night to wait out the storm.

Worried sick about my house, as soon as I could go to look (yes, in The Awesome)... avoided a few things in the road... saw a few things that made me worry worse... I arrived at my place...

Whew... My house is fine. My fence got a section knocked down, but that's it. No power. Imminently dealable.

And reports are that all my folks, somehow, managed to come through with everything intact, all are safe... even my cop brother and cop brother in law, each of which had to be on duty during the storm in some way.

So, in case you were wondering about me, there ya go.

I hope that all others affected by the storm manage to wind up safe too. Still a lot to go for the aftermath, but I am thankful.

Stay safe, everyone!

I'm glad to hear y'all are okay down there! I barely made it through with our .18" of rain.

You would think we were on the coast the way the knuckleheads up here were buying up gas and water.

For a second it looked like Ike was going to hit the Rio Grande Valley. We WERE already preparing.

Hope everybody in the Houston area is faring well with the aftermath.

PS It looks like the tropics are quieting down

Glad to hear everyone is ok with minimal property damage.

We got rained on big time here in the Chicago area due to Ike, all that moisture came right up for us. My town got 2.5 inches today and it's not done yet, other towns around Chicago got 5-6 inches! More rain coming tonight and tomorrow, that will add to the localized flooding already happening. There is a flash flood watch for the entire Chicago area through tomorrow evening.

And soon after I posted that... 'rent's house power went out... but it's back up now. Thanks all. Again, I hope others are fairing as well...

On the question of the media... no, it's pretty bad on the east side... and definitely in Galveston and the surrounding areas... Kemah is bad, Bolivar is reportedly completely destroyed... the storm surge was stupendous because it was so wide... it's a cat 4 surge on a cat 2.78 storm... becuase it was such a wide storm.

Conroe's electric company, Entergy, is reporting a 99% outage... which is including my grandmother... who's phone now doesn't work... I'm a little concerned... Tomorrow, mom and dad will go out there..

The worst part is that Entergy has supposedly reported that their outage (which Ike traveled directly over Conroe, btw) is catastrophic to their central management system, and it may actually be 4 weeks before they even can restore power up there... we will see, of course.

But... except for that worry... I got my fence fixed... it's patched, but you can't tell from the outside.

I got both my campuses up and running on the network backbone... just gotta hook up the computers... deal with, apparently, one bad socket due to a leak in the ceiling at one place... and a bad fiber/ethernet switch at make ready... but otherwise, most grateful at the outcome.

Everyone stay safe... and everyone listen to your authorities.

I don't remember if this was already a sticky thread or not, but thanks guys for making it one. It makes it easier to find.

We're with you Houston, and Galveston, and Port Arthur, and Beaumont, and Orange. It'll get better, because it can't get much worse. Just hang in there, we're here for you.

Time to bring this thread to life again... Winter storm season is upon us!

The central part of Massachusetts and New Hampshire got hit with an ice storm. 350,000 people without power.

I'm at work, so I can;t get out and take pics so I got these from the local newspapers

Some years are better than others. This is actually pretty close to breaking the record for total December snowfall. We can go from one extreme to another. As they say, if you don't like New England weather, wait a minute.
