I wouldn't. A volvo that old is going to start giving you problems, and they're not cheap to repair. I thought about buying an S60R not too long ago, and once I looked into the price of replacement parts (if you can find them), I quickly thought otherwise.
And if your car is an 04, it doesn't really make sense to buy an older car when you're worried about it having issues.

anyone else?)
for even asking that question.

Fix it. Tune up? Throttle body need cleaning? MAF functioning properly? Air cleaner clean? Plugs and injectors OK? Fuel filter and fuel pump OK? Vacuum leaks? Codes?
Even Vulva's need routine maintenance. And emotional support.

My father worked his way through school as a mechanic. The first thing he taught me about cars is that they all have a monthly payment. Once a car is paid off, you still need money for repairs as needed or to keep from needing them. The only question that matters is do you like your car more than another car you could afford? If not, keep your car and repair it. If the Volvo floats your boat, buy it. You will still have to repair it.

A 13 year old Volvo will be a mistake unless it was a one owner with crazy low miles. In other words, basically a 'like new' car that will need very little in repairs for the next few years. Otherwise, forget it. You think Ford repairs are bad, imagine the costs for Volvo repairs and then the availability of parts. Remember that Volvo is now owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China where they are building the Volvos now. They bought Volvo from Ford around 2010 I believe. I imagine a 2000 Volvo model owned by Ford and built in Sweden was a fine machine at that time, but now?? No thanks! Why not get a newer, low miles, and well maintained Mustang? There sure are plenty of sweet ones for sale at all different prices.
