I use Turbotax, and I've been using it for years. I tried Kiplingers and I didnt care for it as well. I think it is HR Block now. Personal preference.

Anyway I'm going to work on that this weekend. I have 3 returns to work on this year. Mine, then I have to help my son and my mom. I hate doing taxes.

I've been using Turbo Tax for years now too and have had no problems at all.
I don't really mind doing taxes. Mine don't take all too long to complete, about 45 minutes, and I want MY money back!! lol

Wow only 45. Do you Itemize? Or you're a better record keeper than I am. I miss qualifying for the Bush Tax cuts. Those were some great refunds.

No,.....I don't itemize. Obviouly if you itemize,...you're going to take longer.
I use the Deluxe Edition on Turbo Tax.

Tax returns shouldn't take all that long to do, it's mostly the terminology that becomes the problem. There are lots of terms and acronyms that don't make any sense to people other than those who do taxes for a living.

Just get things in order to start with and you'll be fine. Try to organize it from sources of income (W-2's, 1099's for interest, dividends and retirement, and stock sales), then next put things that will give you deductions, such as medical, taxes, mortgage interest, etc.

I don't itemize. Married, two houses, etc. takes me about 30-45 min. Degree in accounting helps though .

We Itemize, and give a lot to charities. Both monetary, and non monetary, and thats where the time goes getting all of that entered in to turbo. Deluxe here too. The only way to go.

The IRS acts like we are going to lie and cheat them so they want all of this stuff well documented.

Once I get past the feds, state takes me 5 minutes!

They act like it because people do, all the time. And they certainly will if they think they can get away with it. I get a kick out of all the friends of mine that hear about some random deduction in some news article somewhere on the internet, and think they should be getting that too.

Another Tax man FYI. Make sure you see more than one person for their opinions on estate planning. I just finished a return where the couple got bad advice, and were gifted their mothers home, instead of inheriting it. The resulting tax from gains will cost them $23k this year, $25k when factoring in the loss they should have been able to take.

I won't have that problem. My parents are broke.

For $100 I would have driven down to you with my laptop and had yours done in in no time. And bought DQ.

I finished my taxes on Sunday! 3.5 hours of blood, sweat, tears, a sheer hell. Getting some money back thanks to the American Opportunity Tax credit. Of course it doesnt off set the gazillion dollars owed to the University.

Kudos to you guys who like doing this for a living. Not my cup o tea. I'd rather have a root canal.

They're well-compensated, and some people actually like that kind of thing. I'm one of the three humans on the planet that actually enjoys statistical analysis. They're out there.

[looks around] Who's well compensated? It'd make you want to hug me if I told you how much I make when I look at it hourly.

I don't mind doing personal taxes, but it's **** sure not my dream job by any stretch.

It was probably auto correct and he meant constipated.
