Like I couldn't have learned last week- SPF 4 on a 93 degree day......

Today the kids and I took off bright and early for a day at the lake........I used hawaiian tropic OIL! this time.

I am as red as my nail polish tonight on the spots I missed. BUT strangely it doesn't hurt. I think it hurts Brian more than me. I know I will turn tan.

Whats the best thing to use to still tan without roasting?

Recent studies have shown you should be using SPF 30 or above. You will still get a tan but not burned. Coppertone even makes a sweatproof sport lotion that works great

spf 4 is a waste of time. no wonder you burned.

you need some coppertone spf 30, waterproof/sweat proof. i used that at the beach, reapplied after getting into the water each time, and after an hour or so sitting out and I STILL got a little red last month. I tan easily, but haven't been out in the sun since last summer, so thats why i got red.

you may as well be putting on vegetable oil instead of shelling out for hawaiian tropic.

It might be tan now.......but....... Think of the damage you are doing to your skin. You can still get a tan using SP30+, just takes a bit longer!

Skin cancer is more and more prevalent today. My mother used to just use oil when she was younger. When I was four though, she had a skin blemish that was caused by this. It ended being cancerous cell. Luckily it was benign.

Be careful out there, the sun is a harsh mistress

Honestly- I am not out there lying in the sun. I am not the type to lie out to tan.
I go to the lake to swim-my kids are little fishes, all the incidental stuff happens when I go in after getting bored with swimming.

The coconut oil started out as a joke on my irish hubby- he burns and doesn't tan. BUT I like the smell of it, so I use it for the smell- reminds me of Florida. I use sunscreen on my important parts, the sunburn always happens on the parts where my bikini rides up and where I can't reach or forget to do.

Speaking of Florida, Funny story. In 2003, we went down for 4 days. First day- hubby- that white sand reflects sun, you better wear sunblock. Me- No I will be fine. Meanwhile he and the kids lather up in spf 60.
I was indeed fine that day.......
Second day- you better put on sunblock...Me- I am FINE, SEE! So I go slather on the coconut oil to be a smart aleck........Little burn that day, I can deal with it.
Third day- Screw you buncha sissies- SEE Just a little sunburn.......Come around 4pm, my forehead starts smartin something awful...UH OH I overdid it.
Woke up the next morning, my poor face was swelled like it was stung by 1,000 bees. My eyes swelled almost shut and I came down with a nice case of sun poisoning........Learned my lesson that time. It took two weeks for me to return to normal.
Needless- since then, when we go to Florida, I wear the snot out of sunscreen.

Feel free to laugh at my expense, that's why I post, but at least the top of your head doesn't get burnt. I'm still not use to not having enough hair up there so I get burnt - very red, the back of my head looks like a baboons butt, hair all around and big red center.

Worst part is when it starts to peel, I have just enough hair to hold the peeling skin in so it looks like I have bad dandruff on my monkey butt of a head.

(sigh) I want my hair back Sun screen is hard to put on your head without looking like you have a really greasy head of few hairs. Oh well, gotta start wearing a hat (I hate wearing hats, too).
