so in one of arin's OTHER classes he has to build a sumo bot. that is, a robot that sumos against other robots built by the class. the goal is to push the other robots out of the ring. every robot has to use the same two motors/gearboxes.
every robot also is going to have sensors that detect when the front of the robot is over the edge and then the robot wil reverse and turn to avoid it.
Arin is building his to be a '32 Ford roadster. I cannibalized an old 32 ford coupe model kit i got years ago but never had the time to build. unlike everyone else who has the falling of the edge detection switches just flat on the ground, arin has made them into a suspension. when on the ground it will be compressed and the switch will click. the moment a wheel drives off the edge, the suspension will no longer be compressed, the switch will "de-click", the brake lights will light up, car will stop, reverse and turn and then once the switch clicks again, it will go back to moving forward and attacking
speaking of attacking, it will also have an attack switch and TWO 9v batteries as opposed to just one. the attack switch will be mounted behind the grill and when it is pushed in, it will draw power from both instead of just one batter, for MOAARR PPOOWWWAAA!!! of course, just like boost and nitrous, this explodes mah motors if i overdo it. not that i have any control whatsoever once the car is in the ring..
anywho, it also has to fit in a 10cm square. i had nix the front end of the car, save for the grill, and remove about 1.5cm off the back end. the epoxy is gonna be cleaned up so its smooth and pretty later. i also hacked the roof off so i can have easy access to the electronical bits should they fail and need to be resoldered. the two 9v batteries will sit where the seats should be, upright like people in the car would be
and now, pichas
PS sorry, cameraphone pics and my hands are tired and shaky.

A cool project you've got there Arin I love those 30's Fords. Would like to build a replica of one someday. I've got the drivetrain already (94 GT)
