San Francisco to Las Vegas trip (car or plane)

In 3 weeks I'm going to visit a friend in San Francisco, we want visit Las Vegas(for 3 days on weekend) and we're not sure if go to Las Vegas driving (8-9 hours?) or take a flight (~140$).

If you can to say me something about the highway or roads...

There is an alternative route? Crossing Death Valley.

It's my first time in USA.

if you have the finances, i'd vote for flying. unless you have the desire of looking at a lot of desert. however, i've very impatient when it comes to trips. IMO, why bother wasting all that time to drive when you can take a short flight and have all the extra time to play in Vegas.

I live close to S.F. and have been to Las Vegas several times and the drive is BORING. Fly and enjoy more time in sin city and the gentlemen clubs.

Done the drive a couple of times from the Bay Area. Boring and I rather spend the extra hours in Vegas. I fly now.

I'd fly and let the airplane suffer the miles. Of course, they don't count by miles...

I never fly unless I really have to (like when I'm going to Serbia).

In the summer 2006 I drove almost 4,000 miles, from Milwaukee to Vegas (I had to stop by and visit some friends in Idaho) and back. Man that was fun. Flying would be a lot faster and cheaper, but I just don't like to fly.
