Makes you think about how little we really know about the world, don't it?

'Rogue waves' reported by mariners get scientific backing
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...afp/science_sea
PARIS (AFP) - European satellites have given confirmation to terrified mariners who describe seeing freak waves as tall as 10-storey buildings, the European Space Agency (ESA) said.

A 100' wave is pretty darn big. I'd lose control of my bodily functions if I saw that!

That's the one. It still terrifies me. I have spent almost 40 years around boats, have seen some large waves and even bigger swells, but that's a monster. You have no idea how much power something like that wave has.

Very scary.

I'm in the Navy and I've been out to sea alot. I've done the West Coast to Persian Gulf and back 4 times. Usually a side trip to Australia on the way back. I've heard about these waves but never seen them. I can only imagine, we've been on the edge of a typhoon and actually had waves come onto the flight deck of the Aircraft Carrier I was on. For a wave to come with no warning on a clear day, that's scary even on a big ship.
