I am traveling to Atlanta next week and I was wondering if any of the Alabama TMS members can tell me if there is any road construction on 78 between Tupelo and Birmingham. And if there is any on I20 from Birmingham to Atlanta. I made a trip to Little Rock the other day and the construction was so bad it made the drive 1 to 1 1/2 hours longer than it should have been. I figured that there seems to be more 'Bama members than any where else so you guys would be the ones to ask. Thanks in Advance. :worship:

I dont know of any construction on hwy 78. Once you get into jasper, you will be diverted onto the new freeway being built that will go from bham to tupelo. Its only a small stretch of it and then you are back on hwy 78. It shouldnt be bad unless you hit arkedelphia around 5pm (the area where you get off the free way in bham onto hwy 78.)

I have not been to Atlanta in 5 or 6 years. How long would you guys say it will take to get to Atlanta from B'ham? I am about 4 1/2 hours west of B'ham. I am trying to time my arrival in Atlanta to miss rush hour. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm not from bamma but here in TN it's really bad too. They are closing the main road I take to town from July 6 - July 26. So instead of going 12 miles to town (where I am every day of the week) I will have to take 104N(The road they're closing from Lexington to I40) 2 mile to I40 & then up to the interstate 7 miles to the 108 & then 11 miles to Lexington. And then it's like another 3 miles to where I work.
That's an extra 11 miles. And it's really going to be a pain in the hiney when I get off work at 11pm & have to go home that way.
Anyway. Just my rant on road construction. Good luck on your trip.

I think Alabammy is under permanent construction....
We are really close to becoming the orange barrel state.
If it isn't that its congestion...Our main roads everyone takes(280 and 31) are a nightmare to navigate.

Sorry Alabamans, Ohio has already taken the name "Orange Barrel State"
I-71 (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincy) has been under construction (widening)for 5 years and still another 5 to go. Everytime I get on I-80 its under construction. They're tearing down and rebuilding bridges over I-77 here in Cleveland. And every road has potholes that need to be repaired. There was an article in the Plain Dealer no too long ago about how bad of condition this states bridges are in.
Ohio + cheap road building + harsh winters = "Orange Barrel State"
