Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who topped an illustrious military career by commanding the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991 but kept a low public profile in controversies over the second Gulf War against Iraq, died Thursday. He was 78.

General Norman Schwarzkopf was a true leader... he put the needs of his troops first, wore the same BDU's as the troops in the field to show that he was one of them and one with them. Most importantly, he learned the lessons of the war in Vietnam and vowed that they would not be repeated under his watch. Our nation has lost a true hero....
