I was just thinking how cool it'd be to have a replicator. I could make anything, technically speaking.
But let's say I took 10 years and finally got one to work. After I replicated a potato, and I thoroughly examined it, I would say "Yay!"
And then I'd have the world's only one.
Now, what should I do with it?
The first, obvious thing, would be to make money, but the serial numbers would probably catch up with me. Oh, well, I could make gold. Now that would work.
I could also make a Chicken Cordon Bleu. That'd be right tasty.
And I could make custom shirts. Which would be way rad.
And GAS. I could make gasoline and such.
And Fresh water, ozone, oxygen, spinach, vaseline, Dr. Pepper, an Emberglo 2005 Mustang... why, there's nothin' that I couldn't make!
Wonder what that'd do to the world economy... Being as I have the only one and all. I could be King or something!

The laws of supply and demand states that if you flood the market with something, it's value will drop. the first thing I would do is replicate the replicator (making sure that the replicated replicators cannot replicate other replicators) and sell them for millions. Then, replicate Keira Knightly for me, there's a good chap

I was wondering how long it'd take for someone to say "replicate the replicator." Two posts. Hehe.
Naturally, they wouldn't be able to make more of themselves. Unless I made a couple for just me. How else would I profit?
I'm thinking of making barrels of oil now. OPEC would LOVE me. I'd be my own little oil nation. Which means I'll need security. But I don't trust anyone else, so I'll have to replicate a stronghold to keep you all out.

Well, Mike, you bring up an interesting point...
but you still need a material to change into the final product (since the replicator is essentially a molecular level transporter [versus the quantumn level one used for human transport] it would need a source of 'generic' matter to change into a potato, for instance)
That being said, replicate me a few Aston Martins :geek:

almost got mine done.... decided to cannabalize the flux capacitor from time traveling delorean to help me transmit the structure of the object im replicating into the actual replica object :P
now when you connect your flux capacitor to the scanner and the energy production unit, what kind of wire did you use? copper or steel?
and for a power source what do you think is better: Sonic's power rings or the crystals out of Luke's lightsaber? i was fine until this part. now im baffled

Oh yeah, that flux capacitor is a great idea! (off to tinker...)
As far as the wiring, I'm using a ceramic type that is superconducting at -430 or so. The nitrogen is kinda expensive, but once I get the 'Rep' working, I can make my own.
The power source for each is not sufficient. You need a fairy cake for total perspective, an SEP for secrecy, so that's gonna take some kind of power. 10 Mr. Fusions are good enough for now, but what you really need is some Sarium Krellide power cells. Which I can make after I fire the Rep up.
I'm figuring that good old garbage and dirt can be the stuff that potatos are made of. Plenty of each for the moment. Depleted Uranium could be a great source, being depleted and all, very dense. Lead, etc...
Which means that, yes indeed, I can turn lead into gold! Schweet!

man, that's what I need to power my Rep up. A ZPM. And then, I could make more of them, ship 'em to Atlantis, and get me a Jumper in exchange. Cool!
But then, those dang Cylons will want one.

just tried plugging the contration into a toasted 2 foot sub. man, power and reliability is off the charts...
i think for the actual replicate production unit im going to use a slightly modified phaser, recalibrated to form the molecules it was originally designed to scramble and destroy into the configuration of the object being replicated. ill get to work on that tomoro after my meeting with fiercest of all the Klingons (aka pre-calculus teacher)
i wonder if that will work... only one way to find out :P
