The best detectors by far are from Escort, Beltronics, and Valentine. I roll my Mustang with an Escort Redline and my Daily Driver Ranger with their 8500x50. Best laser jammer is by Laser Intercepter. Check radardetectorforum.org Smart phone users may want to check out Trapster or Waze for a very low cost shared intelligence warning solution.

Good post. Escort, Valentine, and Beltronics are the only ones worth buying. If it has Cobra on it, stay away...far far away. They're complete trash. If laser is used in your area, you'll definitely need jammers. Not even the best radar detectors can detect laser well enough to be worth a ****. Do a search on here...radar detectors have already been covered many times on here.

I have a bel pro series rx65 that I bought about 4 years ago. Is this still a good radar detector to have nowadays? I hear the bel pro gx65 is the same but has the GPS functionality to alert of of speed traps and traffic cams.

I have a Beltronics RX65 and a town cop with laser was pointing right at me yesterday and it didn't go off. So I agree, good detector, but going off with laser is hit or miss.

If your radar detector goes off because of laser you are already screwed.

I don't have jammers. But it is very important to keep and eye out for laser cops. They sit in the cars with doors cracked open just over a hill shooting the laser at oncoming traffic. Or on motorcycles. They are rare here but common in larger cities around here.

I'm sure that's still a decent detector. They haven't advanced much in recent years, other than GPS to lock out old signals.

Even the best detector will only tell you after you're already ****ed.

I have a Cobra with GPS with touch screen, its worked flawless.
I love the settings for speed alert, basically set it to a speed limit aand it will warn you if you reach it, I set mine to 45 for in town, limit is 35-40 this is where I get tickets not paying attention and cruising 48-50 is so easy, the detector I have works great for alert and the GPS with stop light camera warnings are fre lifetime download updates.

Yeah, and this one didn't even tell me at all! The funny thing was this cop was aiming at people going up hill in a high traffic area where it's not easy to speed.

So basically a radar detector's purpose is so you can have your license and registration ready nice and early by the time the cop gets to your window lol.

If you get a cheap one, then yes. Mine usually lets me know to slow down well in advance, way before I can even see or find the cop.

Laser is a different animal altogether. It's rarely used in my area, so I don't worry about it. But if you don't have jammers, then get out your license and insurance.

Radar jamming is illegal across the country. Laser jamming depends on the state. Lot's of good info here: http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008...mmer-test.html
