Got the parts in and all is well. My previous CPU was in fact bottlenecking my 670s. This i7 4770k, even at stock speeds, made a big difference in bf3 and especially crysis 3. Only gripe I have with these new "tiny" CPUs is the heat at load. Everything being on a smaller die means quicker and higher spikes in temps. Ive been playing around over-clocking it a bit and think I will need the previously linked all-in-one liquid cooler, according to reviews it's the best, without going full on custom loop. Anyone upgrading don't even consider the stock cooler, it's junk.

Well I already have a h80 all in one loop, just not enough, plus with this mobo I can't use my sound card because the h80 is blocking it. So should clean up the insides a bit, much cooler temps, and can put my sound card back in!

 

I've got an H100 sitting on my desk doing nothing...need it?

 

I would but my cause doesn't have 2x 120mm fans, only 2x 140mm so I went with the kraken. I figure the bigger 288mm rad should help, bigger is better right? I would have went with corsairs 280mm h110 but they made it to only fit in "their" cases!

 

 

Why arnt you using it on your rig?

 

I'm running a full watercooling solution on it, so it's not needed any longer.

 

What's your set up? Pics? And how does the custom loop compare to the h100?

I'll take some pics tomorrow. It's a caselabs case with two rads, 4x120 on the top and 2x120 on the bottom, a koolance water block, some other goodies. The H100 worked about as well as the setup I have for the entire rig, this just happens to solve the heating for the whole rig instead of just the cpu. I've built three like it with some different components (I only have two 680 Classifieds in mine, while others that I've built have had just one and still others had four of them in SLI). I built the same cooling solution for all of them, and the one with 4 Classifieds ran cool as a cucumber through benchmarking and stress testing. Nothing ever reached higher than 45*C, which far surpassed my expectations. I would have been happy to keep everything no hotter than 50*.

X4 for my 280mm rad, you guys ever used shrouds with your fan/rads, heard their a must for sound reduction with a small bump in performance.

 

I don't use them on my builds but if you have the space, it can't hurt. I know what they're talking about re: dead space in front of the motor, but (and this is getting ticky-tack) if you need every square millimeter of rad fin being blown on full force to keep things cool, you probably need another radiator. I do use gaskets to deaden the vibrations though. My system has ten total fans running at once, and whilst they're quiet in operation they'd wake the dead if they were allowed to resonate or vibrate.

 

Yeah I'll probably eventually go full on water cooling at some point, but for now I figured if I ordered 4 fans for push/pull, I might as well get some shrouds too. Yeah the current fans that came with the kraken x60 rattle like crazy at 1500 rpms and can be heard at anything above minimum. Meanwhile my gentle typhoon case fans are at full blast and you can hear a pin drop.

 

Been using windows 8 since I put my new rig together and I'm having lots of odd issues I didn't have with windows 7. Blue screens and such, games going crazy, etc. Most of the hardware went unchanged besides my CPU and mobo. Curious if any of guys have tried 8 and noticed anything? I just assumed it would be stable by now??
