MONTREAL - American Chelsea Davis hit her nose on the diving board during the 3-meter springboard preliminaries Friday at the World Swimming Championships.
Davis was attempting an inward 2½ somersault in the tuck position when she struck the bridge of her nose on the board and scraped her head. Blood poured down her face, stunning spectators, some of whom covered their faces
Davis received a few stitches in her swollen nose, which was not broken, and returned to her hotel Friday evening.
“It could have been a lot worse. We’ve very, very fortunate,” U.S. diving team leader Bob Rydze said. “We’re letting her rest, but everyone wants to visit her.”
Rydze said Davis never lost consciousness.
“She knew she hit the board and she knew what dive she hit the board on, which was a very good sign,” he said. “A lot of times divers hit the board and forget.”

Yikes Andy... sorry to hear that!! Did you see the video of the dive on the news this morning?? She was interviewed as well, and she has a few scratches and some bruising, but for the most part, shes doing fine. She said she would dive again, but first doing it with a harness type device to get her back in to the right distance of the board.
Im sure there is a video of the accident... but I didnt feel like searching for it... lol.

I watched it live on TV. It looked like it hurt a lot, glad that she came out of it with just cuts and bruises. It looked nasty. As you know, the board flexes so she not only hit it, it went down with her and smacked her 4-5 times in the process. ouch ouch ouch.

yea, they said the board was in motion (naturally) when she came down on it. Which kinda helped, since it was better then hitting her head on the side of the pool itself. At least the board gave way ---
Still left some nasty looking marks on her face. But the fact that she did not loose consciousness is amazing!
Andy... watch CNN tonight, I'm sure they will still be running it. It was on there this morning.

Also interesting to see how the girls after her landed considerably further away from the board. This means points deduction, but I guess they all got pretty spooked and opted for better safe than sorry.
