Need info, advice , buying a ATV

Well I'm going to look at a 2001 Yamaha Grizzly 600. It has 1400 miles, suppose to work perfect. He wants $2300.
Im looking for something for the yard and casual trail ride.
What should I look for and is he asking too much?

Wish I knew more.

But that blade looks awful big. Around here the guys have the straight blade and they can only push about 4". So they have to stay up with it before it gets too deep. Even with chains they don't have the weight to get traction to push too much.
Plus I imagine you have more of a wet snow in the east.

Do you think $2300 is a average price, (understanding you can't see it up close and personal)

I'm not sure what's the average price for them but check out craigslist down in Louisiana and Texas. They are constantly being bought and sold down here. Everybody seems to have one or two.
Not sure why I don't have one. Hmmm

Also Yamaha and Honda are probably gonna be your best bets. Parts and service is much better that the others.

nice quad. i have a 07 honda rincon 680 and its great. ive had to replace a few things here and there on it but i expected that with the kind of riding i do (mud and at times the whole atv is under water). i have mine snorkeled, lifted and have 29 inch tires on it. i would have recommended you get a honda if i saw this thread in time. heres a pic

Too much $ for a 2001. It's 12 years old. I'd probably tell him $1500 cash.

Edit: too late you already bought it. Have fun!

Everybody thinks they need one and then find out they are like boats.

To the OP whatever you do don't let kids ride it. I've seen or heard of too many little kids around here falling off the back and getting head injuries or worse.

yes dont let a child ride it. they are not toys, mine can hit speeds of up 2 about 65-70 since i have over sized tires. i think stock mine went something like 55-60. but either way they are really dangerous.

I really wanted a Polaris Sportsman, I bought it for yard work, and occasional trail riding, We have many trails and creeks around this area, and I have some family that has some 4 wheelers and ride on 150 acres.
I looked around and there's nothing here in NY for $1500. Unless you wanted to do a lot of work on it.
My kids are 23 and 17, Ones done with college and gone. Other hopefully isn't interested (girl)...
I found out the plow is called Solotec, its made to Mount to cars and minivans, lol,
It weighs 40lbs.

My husband bought me my Sportsman late last summer for my birthday and love it so far. I only have about 2 hours on it so far but hope to get out more now that the weather is getting better.
