I think this mostly explains it:
It just wasn't that big this year. I'm sure next season will be the last. Without Simon, the show has nothing.
DeWyze's weak sales are another sign that powerhouse "American Idol" is on the decline. Overall, ratings for the show were down 9 percent from last year. The finale, which aired last Wednesday, was the highest rated entertainment show of the 2009-10 broadcast season, but it was "Idol's" lowest rated finale since season 1, down 16 percent from last year's final show.

Anyway. I'm not sure how the other idols did with their first single, but I couldn't tell you any of the idols other than Clarkson and Underwood.

Those are the only two that did really well. All the other ones did just ok. Daughtry did really well too, but he didn't win.
