My ODOMETER was possibly rolled back....!!!

Here is what happened and I would like your opinion on what you would do if you were me....

I went to a the dealer where I bought my SHELBY from in VA to trade in my 04' F150 supercab. They took it for a spin, looked at the inside and outside for an appraisal, you know the usual.

So my truck has about 67,XXX miles on it now. When I bought it used last year in March of 07', the truck had 36, 190 miles on it , from a dealer in NJ.

The dealer in VA came back to me with a car fax and asked me if I had known about any tampering with the odometer and I said no, he then said take a look at this and it read:

A possible odometer rollback/roll over detected:

7/15/04 107 Miles

11/16/06 63, 974 Miles

11/21/06 36, 170 Miles

12/07/06 36, 179 Miles

Then on 3/14/07 I financed the truck with 36, 190 Mile

When I bought the truck in NJ back in 07', I don't remember doing a car fax, which is my fault... The fax also goes on to say that the dealer got it from an auto auction. The guys in VA told me to take it back to the dealer in NJ and basically to have them make the situation right, however I feel right is... My plan is to call the dealership tomorrow and speak to the GM and then go down to the dealership after work and see what can be worked out. Guys in VA said they would only give me like $5,000 bucks for truck due to this situation.

I pulled out my original financing paper work and it says 36, 190 miles on it and that is what I believed I was buying.

What would you all do?

it's probably a mistake, 23974 instead of 63974, were those the mileage at checkups and such? it's pretty hard to roll back modern speedo's without an expert being able to tell for sure

Hard to tell what the mileage was before, since I got the truck with 36, 190.

I would want my money back from where ever I bought the truck or car from. That would be a heck of a typo in my book. Messing up two digets I can see messing up one but not two.

I called the dealer and had them run a car fax and it came up clean.

Then I went to another dealer which was neutral and had them run a car fax and it was clean as well.....

A carfax report can be easily faked by a dealership trying to drive down your trade-in value.
Hopefully they just made an error.
Around here, the honest dealers are telling people the big trucks don't have squat for trade-in value and like it or lump it. Some will only give you close to trade-in value book if you buy another big truck.
All the average buyers out there are only talking about MPGs. The big vehicles are not selling at the auctions for anywhere near book around here. The little cars have at least 20 bidders on them.

I dont know....that truck would have had to be driven over 30K a year to rack up that many miles that fast....maybe a mistake...could have been 35,974

Ok,
Isn't your ODO DIGITAL on this vehicle?

And if it is, it is controlled by the ECM/PCM, and can not be just removed and Rolled back.

Or does it have a analog display, with the mechanical ODO barrel numbers?
