Muzzleloader Pistol

I just bought one tonight, at a small fair in my area. Anybody know anything about these guns?

yes.... what do you need to know?

try googling and maybe find a local that knows what to do...

what caliber? percussion cap? flint lock? theres many kinds of muzzleloaders

you will need to find out what size ball to use, and what a good load is as far as how much powder to use... meaning load size in grains...

load powder, ram ball in, put on percussion cap, pull back hammer,

fire away!

i use pyrodex powder in all my stuff.....

you will need to do some research and see what grade powder is best for you... meaning how fine the granules are...

smaller grains usually mean cleaner burning powder, but more expensive..

invest in some gun cleaning stuff, your gonna need it cause they get dirty!!!!

i would pick up a powder flask like this one:

this one appears to have a 60 grain nozzle on the end, meaning when you fill the nozzle only, it has 60 grains in it...

i usually shoot about 45 grains in my pistol, but they are all different and you just have to experiment to find out... and yes, there is a limit to how many grains your pistol will take before it gets damaged....

i shoot anywhere from 90-120 in my rifles... see the difference?

you can get smaller nozzles for these flasks so they take 30 or 45 grains when full....

you will need percussion caps, *****, patches, and a flask to shoot it regularly...

percussion caps are what the hammer strikes to fire the powder in the chamber...

patch wraps around the ball as you stuff it in the barrell, insuring a snug fit and proper backpressure

you can buy ***** that dont use patches, they are slightly larger and when you load them the barrell slices off a little bit of lead around the circumference of the ball making a snug fit....

thats how me and future's pistols load anyway....

the bore butter is optional....

it goes in each cylinder chamber after the ball and powder are loaded just to seal it off so that no spark enters the chamber and accidentally fires a round thats not centered on your barrell....

look up "pepperbox" if you wanna see what happens when they all go off at once... lol

you can also use vaseline as bore butter if you dont wanna buy the expensive stuff...

i dont use any at all, its messy and a pain...

if mine goes off, ill take some lead schrapnel i guess
