Mustang owner in Italy, without his Mustang
My wife and I arrived in Italy yesterday and picked up a rental at the airport outside Rome. It's a Fiat 500L (for those of you who have seen the YouTube commercial, this is not the one with the Italian family in the back seat) SUV/station wagon. It's a diesel five-speed and is very interesting to drive. When you come to a stop and shift into neutral and let out the clutch, the revs drop to zero. When you push in the clutch to shift into first the revs go back up to idle. The display in the dash tells you when to shift up an down. The cruise control seems to be more of a speed limiter, although I have not studied the manual (in Italian). So far it looks like the mileage should be pretty good, although we have only covered less than 300 kilometers. Given the condition of much of the pavement in this area, I'm glad I'm not subjecting my Mustang to it. More reports to follow.
