The Moon Trip!

What a Difference in The Overall Vibe & Feel of The Moon Landing in 69 and The Far Side of The Moon Trip in 26. Just Does Not Seem To Register on The Wow Meter At All!

Maybe it's Just Me!

One of my life's biggest disappointments was the failure of our space missions. The shuttle program was a farce of what it was supposed to be and became science studies only, not space travel. A lot was done for medicine and science but very little progress into space. Outside of Hubble type ventures and some robot Mars missions, there is not much to get excited about over the past 60+ years. When you have lived it, you remember the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo excitement.
I didn't even care if this latest Artemis journey failed or not. It was a simple repeat of the Apollo flights, but with better equipment this time. The same stupid rocket fuel was necessary with no advances in other forms of fuels. Nuclear? Magentic? Anything else?? ZZZZzzzzzz........
Call me any name you want but it also went downhill when EVERYONE had to be involved and included in the missions. Not the best or most qualified, but EVERYONE, from inside the headquarters to the astronauts themselves. Of course this moon shot followed the same protocol as any other DEI hire. I was actually stunned to see any white males involved, If the TV series Lost in Space was made today it would be called WOKE in Space.

In the '60's space travel was a new thing, just sci fi till then.I remember how excited I was while watching it on TV,but I was a mere toddler then.

I had to get an astronaut suit for my 12" GI Joe (remember those my fellow old farts? ) Never got the Apollo capsule for Mr Joe so I had to make do with pretending he was floating around on a space walk

Oh Man We Had a 4Ft Doughboy Pool & I Had the Capsule & Joe Space Suit! Good Times! Many Splashdowns With Helecopter Recovery! Gijoe Was My Major Toy & I Had a Lot! Base, Helecopter & Jeeps! When I Turned 13, About 1975 I gave it All to a Bit Younger Friend. I Ran into A Sister of His in the Early 80's & She Said He Still Had it All. I Bet he Still Does To This Day & He Would Be about 60! I Actually Named My Son After Him. I don't Think He Knew That! May Have To Track him Down & Visit in the Near Future!

I had the helicopter too,and a 1 man submarine for Joe to pilot.Used to haul it to the rock quarry on my bicycle and run it in the water with a string tied to it for recovery. One time the string came loose and no more sub

Good Times!

I Kept a Few Select Pieces & Have Them Stashed Away in a Closet In Their Footlocker!

Speaking of Space & Toys My Other Fun Thing Was Major Matt Mason With Space Crawler & Base! I Really Enjoyed Those as Well But Have No Idea What Became of Those Toys!

The Space Age Was Fun For The Finned Cars Which Were Pretty Much Gone as Far as New When I Came Around But Plenty of Used Ones Still on The Road To Amaze a Young Kid! The Bat Wing Chevys Always Caught My Eye!

Ahh, The Days of Play & Imagination!

I miss the styling of the cars in the space age...there is no style anymore, just boring and bland.

Our news stations had a lot of coverage regarding the mission so I assumed it was the same everywhere. I guess we had more local coverage since the Commander, Reis Wiseman, is from Baltimore. So if you saw any pics like we did of him in a red shirt that said Dulaney, that was his high school There was also a lot of talk about how the crew named a lunar crater Carroll, in honor of his wife that passed from cancer.

Saw some of the same way out here. But most of the info I had to go looking for in on streaming sites. We did get the NBC return coverage. I have a 9 year old future scientist grandson who was over the moon about this and we followed the trip mainly because of his excitement for this mission and those to come. Otherwise I doubt we would have known much about this one.

It is exciting that we are finally getting back to the mission that was started back when we were kids in the 60's. I feel that even though it is not without a huge price tag it spurs tech development that we likely would not pursue without a need. Brings us tools and knowledge growth like we saw in our lifetime. I enjoyed watching this.

It is amazing of the amount of things that have did not change in the Artemis craft design from the Apollo missions. Same fuel, same capsule design, and still using parachutes. Guess those brainy guys back in the 60's were right on spec with the best way to do it. They did not find a better way even after all the years.
