Lasik/Phakic Eye Surgery

hey all,

Ive just completed my free consultation and they said i couldnt get Lasik surgery. I didnt fit under the means of the +/-. They also have said that I COULD get surgery using the phakic surgery THEN do lasik. They said my eye is to flat-like. They wont do both eyes in same sitting. This kind of surgery was approved 2004 for US but was done in other countries first. Do any of you know who had gotten this or Lasik?? It is a car payment bascially the next 4 yrs.

Mark

My wife had the lasik done and she is super happy with the results. No more wearing contacts or glasses, but as I remember, as you get older your eyes will continue to degrade to the point that she might need reading glasses some day. They did both her eyes in one sitting.

My wife went to this doctor -> http://www.delperomd.com

He is supposed to be one of the leading doctors in lasik in the country if not the world.

I spoke to my eye doctor about Lasik w/ wavefront and he said the exact same thing. He told me that it's common that if you get Lasik done, that you should expect to start wearing reading glasses around the age of 45, plus or minus a couple of years.

So you have to put that into your decision as well. I'm going to be 36 this year, so I don't know if it'll be worth only 8 years of no glasses.

Also, get a couple of opinions on Lasik doctors as well. I found that listening to their commericals, places like Kremmer (sp?) Laser Eye Center sounds awesome, but I came to find out that they aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be.

Good luck!

Well, for what i need, the phakic is a lil contact lens and it cost $4500 a piece. Then i need Lasik on that so it'll cost $2200. so thats @ $12000 big ones. Insurance does not cover it. I am about 70/30 on doing it. I'm a little worried on this method they have to to do.

For $12K I'd continue to wear glasses. I'm way too old to consider this type of surgery. I've been wearing glasses/contacts all my life and I have cataract surgery scheduled in two weeks. No big deal to all of that. It's too much money for what will eventually be a diminishing return, namely your eyesight.

Just my $.02.

I wanna do it but i am nervous on the prepping and the length it will take to do. I might look into other docs and prices. I've done contacts b4 but it got to be a pia. Yea, no matter what your eye sight will slightly get worse after 40, which i already new. what to do, what to do!!
