Singer James Brown Dies at 73
The Associated Press, Monday, December 25, 2006; 2:56 AM
ATLANTA -- James Brown, the legendary singer known as the "Godfather of Soul," has died, his agent said early Monday. He was 73. Brown was hospitalized Sunday at Emory Crawford Long Hospital with pneumonia and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, Copsidas said.
The agent said Brown's family was being notified of his death and that the cause was still uncertain. "We really don't know at this point what he died of," Copsidas said.

Obviously this is big news for Soul-Patrol. It's just like Mr. Brown to go out on Christmas morning, isn't it?
1. Soul-Patrol had been advertising a concert with Mr. Brown on 1/28/2006 @ the bergenPAC. That show isn't going to take place. We have just been informed by the bergenPAC that anyone who puchaced tickets they can be exchanged $5.00 off for an upcoming show (Patti LaBelle, Ojays, Temptations, Gladys Knight)
Call (201) 227-1030 or go to the bergenPAC website at for more information.
2. We have a ton of information about the life, career and legacy of James Brown on the Soul-Patrol website. We have discographies, album reviews, streaming audio, concert reviews, related artists such as Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Bobby Byrd, commentaries on James Brown's impact on Black Americans and on life in America over the past 50 years and more at the following url: http://www.soul-patrol.com/funk/father.htm
I had been scheduled to interview and meet Mr. Brown for the first time while he was in the NYC area. It's yet another reminder that tomorrow might just be too late to let people know how you feel about them...
2. The comments, eulogies, etc. have been coming in fast and furious. If you would like to discuss the life/legacy of James Brown. I have just opened up the Soul-Patrol Chat room for anyone who wishes to do so. We have also started streaming the music of James Brown into the chat room and thought the Soul-Patrol website. No doubt there will be more news and information concerning the life and death of Mr. Brown in the days to come. Stay tuned...

This is sad for many of us old timers who really knew who he was,
There is no one that put on a show like James, to watch him dance, putting on and throwing off the cape was a site that will never leave me,
He was a one of a kind and a real showman.

He will be missed!
