From a control systems designer who was in a three vehicle convoy, but luckily his SUV was not hit....

I'm lucky that I was not in this SUV. Everyone survived this IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast because of the armor and bullet-proof glass. We are trained to quickly leave the damaged vehicle and pile into another for a fast trip to a safe location.

You can see all the shrapnel holes that penetrated the skin of the vehicle. The armor is inside. The transmission was destroyed and even the frame was penetrated. This does not happen every day, but even every few months is unpleasant.
